As my fitness has increased with a return to cycling and pushing out a few more k's per week without too much extra effort, I've been monitoring my BP and heart rate. Did some reading about resting heart rate as a guide to indicating fitness level, and took mine. Was a little shocked to see it was 49.Pleased but surprised. I've checked it several times over a week to be sure and it's always 50/51 after sitting idle for 5 mins or so, and 49 when I wake in the morning before arising, which is when it's recommended to take it. The figures I'm returning are considered to be in the athletic range. Just curious as to what some of you others are at with RHR. i realise that there are many factors to measuring fitness via HR both resting and during exercise, and that resting heart rate is not a definitive measurement, rather just a basic guide. cheers Dave
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours? When fit, I am ~ 40-42. I have seen high 30's when in hospital which is always fun cause it freaks them out. I broke a foot once in a crash but they admitted me as a cardiac patient
Haven't checked for a while but I took my pulse while sitting at desk the other day at 48, so I guess I'm getting back towards my typical fit levels.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Well before I started riding and losing weight it was 80-83. Now it's 58-65. So a 25% improvement. I'm happy with that!

Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
I have this thing that grows on my hand, actually 5 of them each hand...it touches my temple for 15 secs and gets mutiplied 4 times...voila...resting HR.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Well 30 years ago it used to be around 40...just now it is 55 which is the same as my age...
I also had a spell in hospital when I was 26yo after a motorcycle incident...the nurses enquired if I felt alright becuase my hr was only 42...
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?42-44 this week. Have seen it hover around the 40 mark in the past. Although the max I've hit is only 207 which I'm sure is a lot lower than others.
Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
A very strange place for taking one's pulse. Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple
Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
exactly where I take mine. A nice strong easy to find pulse on the temple.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Must be a cyclists thing that they think we are about to croak when on the table in hospitals...I ran into the back of a car at 80kmph on a moto...minor miscalculation
On the slab doctor asked if I did a lot of cycling...shaved legs and very low HR...shock probably helped lower it even more. But then commented on how it suddenly went up once the police officer walked in and started having a go at me...Dealer plates only
Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?dont know about RHR will do first thing tomorrow ... got a HRM on my bike part of the system max is 206
talked to cardiologist (im a cardiac nurse so wasnt as a patient) and he doesnt seem worried ..... also told me that if he sees me dying on the road he'll know that i have reached my max and shoudnt have gone so hard up the hill "I know its a buget 'cause its got lots of numbers in it!" GWBush
Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
A miss use of the phrase I'd say. there are those with HR max in the 150s and those with it in the 220s+. HR Max has absolutely no bearing on your fitness, nor how "hard" you are. riding after a HR max reading is not only normal but more than likely a sensible thing to do.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?I was 51bpm last time I checked. Pretty Impressed with myself that I've managed to get it that low in such a short period because not even 12 months ago I did no exercise at all, ate junk food by the bucketload, drank myself stupid 3-4 times a week and smoked and I weighed 110kg and none of it was muscle. Now I dont smoke, eat healthily 99.9% of the time, I dont drink alcohol at all, I run, cycle competitively, swim, and do weights regularly.... and the weigh in 82.7kg and 13.3% bodyfat and still dropping

Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
Good on ya ! So... what do you do for fun? LOL My RHR is 46. I have had the same probs with super low heart rate in hospital (after a motorcycle accident) where they all freaked out. I dont know what my running/riding HR is. I am looking for the right HRM atm.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours? Thanks for the great response to the poll people.
looks like we have some fit people(no surprises) Nice to see that i fit into the upper level even with my meagre 160 k's a week.
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Low to mid 50s, I don't actually check it, but that's the average of four different monitors at the hospital today. Staff kept asking me why it was so low. "I ride a bike" sez I. "Ahh" said one, "Whaddyer ride?" said the other 5
Anybody from Sunshine hospital here? If so, G'Day and thanks again. Shaun ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Measured mine last night while sitting on the forums, nice and relaxed.
46-48bpm
Re: Resting Heart rate. What's yours?Just got out of the hospital today. every time they took my blood presure and BPM the machine beeps if your HR is below 50. They get the trusty fingers out and a watch to dubble check it. My hart rate is around 47

Re: Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
Similar thing, but mine was around 42/44. Kept having to check manually when the machine beeped, despite me still being alive and eating !!!!
