I'm surprised anyone can be so aero with his lack of saddle-bar distance.

Have a look for some of the photos of Jayson Austin (Masters 1 hour WR holder who I posted about in the general discussion section) and check out his position.
Jayson doesnt run much drop, but also has a CdA of ~0.185 (very, very aero)

I understand that width matters when it comes to CdA.

I know that, but for Levi to be that low, he must have some fairly short humerus's or something. If my saddle-bar drop distance was similarly like that, I'd look like an age-grouper triathlete...

I've noticed the pro and presumed better TT positions (Levi, Zabriskie, etc) are fairly crouched up - knees close to scraping elbows. Maybe this guy (RIP) could've done with shorter extensions (among other things like number, wristbands, shoe covers etc)

I would be interested for Alex to chime in here, but Im pretty sure that some of the guys that are looking for a super narrow elbow position are wasting their time as their hip width is their limiting factor. John Cobb has stated previously that having elbows in any narrower than hip width is pointless for most people and can be counter productive (handing more than aero)

Frontal area matters but so does coefficient of drag.

As for elbows (and hands) wide v narrow, really it is an individual thing and there is no one rule that works for all.
Same with arms pointing up (slightly) or horizontal.
Same when comparing aero helmets (for some there can be a sizeable difference, for others it matters less) - depends on relative head position.

Yaw angles can also change things somewhat.

Yeah, I think I'm aero.

But I ride a 'bent. ;)
