Cyclist Killed in Hit and Run

Postby Aushiker » Sat Jun 30, 2007 12:53 pm

Hi

Not good news ... see Sydney Morning Herald. Sounds like it should be a murder charge.

Regards
Andrew

No argument Andrew, in both cases.
Ya can hear the standard excuse now...

...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

What got me was the driver seems to have knocked over the cyclist AND then run over them ... as if it was a separate action. Maybe I misreading it or the report is not clear.

Yes, it is sloppy reporting. The cyclist might have been knocked down and fallen under the wheels. But the moron took out a pedestrian at the same time so it wasn't just a 'whoops I got too close'.

The reporter has used the word "Incident" rather than "accident".
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

This was posted in aus.bicycle:
Yep. From ABC news:
"Police have charged a teenager over a fatal hit-and-run accident in
far north Queensland.
...
An 18-year old man has been charged with manslaughter and callous
disregard."
