Tour De France 2009

Postby Ed » Tue May 26, 2009 7:47 pm

Hi,

I'm going to the TDF this year for the first day in Monaco. We will be based in Nice and arrive in Nice 3 days before the start. I have a free day when I can go cycling but I don't want to take my bike with me on the plane because I'll be away for a month. Does anyone know of a tour group I can join for the day and hire a roadbike? Can someone recommend a place to hire a roadbike and route?

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed, Not many tour groups based around that end of town. Costal is very busy with summer holiday traffic - not good for touring. I have riden from Sam Remo to Monaco - 80KM there and back [Italy - France - Monaco] Crazy traffic - but I felt completely safe. Coming back in afternoon I bet traffic over the 40K distance. Following scooters travelling in the middle of the road was an experience. You could hire a bike from a friendly bike shop - which may have spare stock. If your heading to the Mt ventoux stage , theres a bike shop at the base which rents out Looks Bikes for day trips. Book Now.

Thanks Shane,

I'm going on an organised tour for the start of the tour de france. On the first day, they offer an organised bike rides out of Nice to the Col de Madone and the Col d'Eze. My problem is that I want to do one day of riding on this day but I don't want to take my bike with me because I'm travelling for a month. Do you have any bike shops you can recommend? The tour company that I'm going with (Graham Baxter) doesn't hire bikes. I've tried emailing a few bike shops but they don't seem to hire road bikes.

Cheers,
Ed

If you are in Nice - near the main station there is a car rental shop that hires out bikes. I managed to get a Scott raod bike last year from there.

Also Col Eze is a nice and easy ride.

Have fun.

Ps I am on the Baxter tour also from the 17th of july,

Hi Chris,
I ride a Scott here so it would be great to get it in Nice.

Do you happen to remember the name of the car rental shop in Nice? I called a few last night and spoke to them in my not so perfect french but none of them said they had bikes.

Is the shop one of these:

Europcar
Rent a car
Day 11 car rental
Argus

Many thanks,
Ed

Hello everyone,
I realize the above posts were from about 2 years ago now, but I have a quick question: I am going to do the Ironman in Nice, France on June 24, 2012 and I am planning on renting a road bike for the race and to use for about 4 days after. Does anyone know of a place in Nice where I could rent a decent road bike to use for the Ironman? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
