"Interestingly, though XX is quite possibly the best-shifting group in the SRAM family, the 2x10 gearing requires fewer total gear changes since either ring now effectively yields more usable ratios. The full spread on the extra-wide 11-36T cassette is accessible in either chainring and the straighter chainline means that the system runs both quieter and with less friction than one would normally expect from a crossed combination."
Looks good. Wish I could afford it. And a suitable bike to mount it all on.

Nothing more to add.

Velonewssummed up their posting with this comment:
RegardsAfter spending two days learning about it and close to a half-dozen hours riding it, we can whole-heartedly claim that this group represents more than just an evolution for SRAM and its off-road brands.
Is it revolutionary? We need more time to answer, but it is absolutely impressive. The SRAMies say they put their best and brightest on this job, gave them time, world-class athlete feedback and the freedom to think outside of the box.

Love the line "dropped the weight from 11g to 8g - a 30% saving in weight". A massive 30%!?!?! Whoa!

"In the name of stiffness, the XX crank and chainrings rely on a new proprietary bolt circle diameter of 80mm/120mm, which places attachment points as close to the chainring teeth as possible."
Yet ANOTHER BCD to deal with. Making it even more expensive if you bust a chainring down the line. SRAM out-Shimano-ing Shimano with proprietary sizings? I guess most people who'll be riding it and replacing parts wont be paying retail for it anyway.

You can't use other makers' chainrings as there are no standard chain ring bolts in the system. The holes in the chain ring are threaded. Come in sucker ....familyguy wrote: Yet ANOTHER BCD to deal with. Making it even more expensive if you bust a chainring down the line. SRAM out-Shimano-ing Shimano with proprietary sizings? Thanks, alchy - it's nice to know my 3x9 setups are under no imminent threat of being superseded...
