Sydney LBS that does rear fork spreading

Postby triode12 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 10:03 pm

Just remeasured the rear forks on my Kuwahara roadie and it is 124mm instead of the 130mm when I first measured it. :(

Does anyone here know of an LBS in Sydney that is skilled in spreading the rear forks to 130mm? And how much might charge to do this?

TIA

I'd get a proper frame builder to do it. I looked into this when I was debating whether to modernise the Europa or not and to be done properly, the frame needs to be strapped down on a jig. Charge was modest but I can't honestly remember the quote for it.

As 'who' - I don't know the Sydney scene, but enquiries at your lbs or racing club should get you started.

As Mike says, Sheldon has a good article on how to do it yourself. Having discussed this with someone who's done it, the results were one widened frame and one ruined frame.

I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

Jim Bundy is probably the most experienced person in Sydney. I'm sure there are others.

Hi Mike, Richard,

Thanks for the information.

Mike,

How can I contact Jim Bundy? Does he own a bike shop?

TIA

Jim Bundy is retired but still does stuff.

I don't have the contact details but I think that Cludence may have them.

I didn't know about Jim Bundy. I'm taking Enzo to Paul Hillbrick at Minto to have the rear stays reset. He thinks it will only cost about $50 - $75, but it's one of his frames that he'll be doing and he's doing some other stuff for me, so it might be different for others.
You can contact him through the Hillbrick website - www.hillbrick.com.au

Hi Pierre,

I called Paul today and he quoted $90 for the job which is a bit too rich for me.

Now, I'm sorta thinking of abandoning the rebuild of the Kuwahara and putting the money into a new Colnago Master X light instead.
