Some clubbies do it every week, some every month. Some do it 2 or 3 tmes in a row.
I've done it 3 times since Feb.
Not looking promising for me.
6 minutes hey, that's only 3 and a bit minutes slower than the record.....heading south.

I've been sick the last 2 weeks but am ok now and have started preparing. Can't really see myself getting out to reccy the climb before the day though.
Is it a really tough climb?

The first 3k's isn't too bad with a couple of easier meters to rest before the last 800m which increases to between 10-16% gradient, the last 500m is a straight steep climb to the finish.
Current record for the climb is 9min:27sec in 2005

Zozz, Don, Mike? You guys going to turn up and have a go at Razorback?
All you FPR diehards would love this hill. Especially after the practice you've had on the M7 up to Elizabeth Dr.
Check the MCCC website link in my sig to get further details. Start time is 0800 hours - nice and brisk at that time of the morning.

4k's up hill, average speed under 20km/h (for most of us) heart rate way too high sounds great.
Is the start 8am I thought the site said 9am

Didn't really bother to check. Think of it as an additional 60 minutes warm up.

Did a reccy myself yesterday and today, along with Chuck and a couple of guys from the club. Won't mention my times, but I'm hoping to improve on them come Sunday
Also saw Grant W out there, who (as we found out from him) had been up the hill every day this week.
I'm expecting good times from you Grant.

usually time trial sort of thing, guys/gals leave in 1 or 2 minute intervals?
Anyone got a garmin edge link of the actuall course, so i can check out distance, gradients etc
If i do it the TT will be my first time up the climb
Whats a respectable time for a C grader?

What is the training run you do Killler? I suck at climbs so would like to get an idea of what a hill interval is!KillerHeadWind wrote:Damn too soon. The next one I'd love to give a crack at since I've been doing serious hill interval training lately

Riders leave at 30 second intervals.
Same rules apply as in other TT's - No drafting etc.
I have got it on my Garmin, and will upload the data tonight or tomorrow morning and post the link.
Hard to say what time a good C grader could do it in. we've got one C grader who can sprint like a demon, but can't climb for crackers. I reckon you'd be looking at sub 14 minutes Don or better, seeing as you're a skinny git an' all.
Chuck did 15:17 last year, and I reckon he'll break 15 this year easy.
C'mon Killer. Consider it a training run.
lol (AT) Lou - Brokeback Razorback.

Don't expect too much from me Kev.
I'm just a poor old 34yr old "D"division rider trying to lose a bit of weight
Went up there for the last time today, legs are heavy and HR does'nt want to come out and play, Time for a few days rest I think

i wont have time either Zozz, my plan is if i dont go to Lansdowne (not sure is Spiz is going yet) i will go to Razorback early, ie get there 7.30am, and ride up real slow to conserve energy, then roll back down, racing starts at 9am so would give me atleast 1hrs rest, plenty of time i hopezozza wrote:Might not have time to check this hill out before Sunday

Lexi has the right idea.
The first 2/3rds of the course would make an ideal warm up, the last k I'd probably accept it is a hard ride.
I hope this helps though;
Out of the start it's flat for 100m before an incline, it does not look that bad, but treat it with respect as this little hill is deceiving and will get the HR up. as soon as you reach the top there is a home on the left hand side of the road and the road flattens off for a couple of hundred meters before it heads up hill and around to the first left hand turn. for the next 1.5k's it's a steady up hill climb and a chance to get into a good rythem, it's not that hard, training i'm in big ring with a controlled HR.
After this 1.5k's the road flattens for a few hundred meters and is a good time to increase average speed as well as lower your HR a bit before the start of HELL.
At the end of the flat stage the road kicks up hard to the left, and in MY oppinion this next 200m is the steepest part of the course so don't sprint up it and pop. this section of road is steep until you reach Eagles Rd were it turns to the right and then into a hairpin left, the road again is not too bad here and it gives you a slight rest until you pass the look out on a right hand turn and it's a straight 600m climb to the finish over 10%, this is where Kev said to leave a little fuel in the tank, He is right.
Another peice of advise, is the road is in s**t house condition with pot holes and rough surfaces every where. It will pay on your warm up to find the smoothest path up the hill.
Hope this helps, see you there,
Grant
