Getting a bike painted in ACT

Hi all,
I got a Reynolds 753 Kenevans frame, and I want to re-paint it.

I got a forum friend who told me that it would cost abt $100 to sandblast and powdercoat the frame in Queenbayen.

Just wondering if anyone here knows anyone else who would do a sandblast, repaint for abt $100?

I have also seen frames re-done with the lugs chromed. How much would it cost to chrome the frame and forks, and then mask them for a re-spray?

Do I need to completely strip the frame of decals, and before getting it sandblasted? What about headset cup? Do they need to come out as well?

I'd make sure your sandblaster knows what he's doing to - bike tubing can be very thin and he needs to realise he's not stripping the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

I was thinking of it collapsing during the sandblasting, but either way, get a specialist to do it with a rare frame like that.

$100 for a strip and re-paint is pretty good value. There's a guy in Queanbeyan who has a very good reputation, but I don't remember his name. I will ask other club members and find out who he is.

No idea - but it would look good!

The frame would need to be stripped - including the headset and cable guides. Getting the headset off is relatively easy, getting it back on can take special tools (a headset press). I know some-one who's got one (not me).

The 753 tubeset is very thin, so I wouldn't let just any old sandblaster at it.

Is it a rare frame? Darn I just stripped off all the decals. Just tried my best not to damage the Reynolds 753 ones, might be able to still put them back on, but the Kenevans ones are pretty much gone.

Thanks for the tips, I will continue to ask around a bit more before getting it done.

A shop I went to said that they would send the frame to Sydney to get it done, cost - $200. Enamel paint. Not sure if I want to spend this kind of money.

Do search on Kenevans - they were discussed recently ... and now you're going to tell me that was you In any case, a hand made frame by an Aussie builder is something to protect.

The Reynolds 753 decals can be replaced (ie. bought) and you can get kenevans ones made. Did you take a photo (or two) of the bike before you started? Even if you didn't, there's plenty of images of the kenevans logo / signage around. I can get some photo's if you need them, as I ride alongside one pretty often.

I did start a thread on cyclingforums about Kenevans ... but I never thought someone would say they were "rare", maybe not seen often because they are old. Not many ride on steel nowadays anyway.

I actually got this frame to try out single speed riding. But I have since started thinking about trying to re-paint the frame after seeing some nice examples at fyxomatosis.com, and there was also this masi bike rebuild article on speedplay's website ... inspirational!

The frame has been in storage for the last few months, but I have since cleaned up the garage and there might just be space for another bike!

I think I can live without the Ken decals, did however see a seller on Ebay selling the decals for US$40 ... which is a bit rich I think.
