Forum Skin "prosilver Special Edition" will be turned off
Postby AUbicycles » Fri Jul 31, 2009 1:30 am
Currently there are 23 members using this (54 using subsilver2) and 4863 on the standard BNA customised forum skin.

If you do have prosilver Special Edition - I recommend changing to prosilver - which is pretty cool - similar look and feel (bluer) and customised.
Change will be on Sunday.

I use Prosilver and like it. Gives me the announcements at the top and the adverts on the side so I can easily get the front page and also support the forum via the advert links.

In comparing Prosilver and Prosilver Special Edition the main differences are the fixed width and the colour scheme.
The standard Prosilver was updated so that the avatar position is on the left ... so it is a good skin
Let me know what you prefer about the prosilver special edition.

Mainly, the absence of mouse-over highlighting of the threads.AUbicycles wrote:Let me know what you prefer about the prosilver special edition.

In both the prosilver versions, the topic headline changes colour.
If you can provide a screenshot that will help.

G'dayAUbicycles wrote:mouse over highlighting? .. I had a look though can't see what you mean.
In both the prosilver versions, the topic headline changes colour..
It also comes up with a little box (in both editions) say "No new posts" or "new posts" but you can tell this anyway from the posts icon.
I can't get it to do anything else in Firefox 3.0.12 anyway.

Sorry - I meant topics. From any of the index/topics panels, moving the mouse over the forums and topics causes them to be highlighted. I just find it incredibly annoying... Other than that, I guess it's because it's closer to the default phpbb look & feel.AUbicycles wrote:mouse over highlighting? .. I had a look though can't see what you mean.

Unfortunately I will still disable the special edition- it is too much work developing for 3 versions.

I was using Prosilver Special Edition mainly for the Avatar position on the left. It also has a better look than Subsilver2, IMO.AUbicycles wrote: In comparing Prosilver and Prosilver Special Edition the main differences are the fixed width and the colour scheme.

How do I get the avatars on the left in Prosilver?

I guess Prosilver looks good enough - but fixed width and avatar positioning on rhs makes it a bit clunky to use...

Much prefer avatars / profile info to be on the left hand side.
I can't see fixed width being enforced on either Prosilver or Subsilver2. (appears both to be variable width to me)

Right you are - I had scrolled to the bottom so the strip on the rhs occupied by ads at the top was blank...Chanboy wrote:I was using prosilver, but now switched to Subsilver2.

Speaking of ads - in IE I can see our little friend followed by some google-sponsored text ads... in Firefox the text ads are missing. Not that I'm complaining

Obviously there's a reason for it to be taken away, what is it?
I would like a skin that doesn't have bold colours and doesn't look so... forum-y. Something more "stealth"

I liked it too, but can understand Christopher's challenges to develop for 3 versions when a significant minority used our preferred skinAUbicycles wrote: it is too much work developing for 3 versions.

I know you are kidding because after all you make an effort to support the forums by clicking on the ads don't you?m@ wrote:Speaking of ads - in IE I can see our little friend followed by some google-sponsored text ads... in Firefox the text ads are missing. Not that I'm complaining
Just a friendly reminder to us all that someone, read Christopher, has to pay for our playground, so lets do the right thing and give a bit back. A click or three don't hurt anyone or better still where possible supporting the sponsors.
We need Wiggle and PBK and co to advertise here

Could be that the site they're hosted on is on my adblock blacklist if other FF users can see them... I'll check.

I use Adblock (AT) home with FF on both my Mac and Vista PCs, and I do not see the ads. On Windows XP at work with FF (but Adblock not used) I see the ads.m@ wrote:Er - yeah... hence why I thought it might be a good idea to let Christopher know that the ads aren't appearing in FF...

Ahh I wasn't having a go at you, well that was not my intention ... it was said in jest hence the smile ....
That said I am however interested in how you can support the financing of the forums if you use Adblock. Would be nice to get rid of the ads if there is a way to do both.
