Stem/Bar compatability

As I've found out, there's a significant enough difference b/n a 31.4 and 31.6mm seat post.

One technique people have used for seat post is to shim it with a piece of aluminium can. But for a critical control part as the stem and bar, I wouldn't do it. Any problem may be fatal.

lots of experience clamping a 26 bar with a 25.4 stem (hard to get a 26mm quill). A half round file and a bit of time helps. If you use this method clamp the file in a vise and move the stem (fingertips on the clamping area), this way you get less "wobble" and you should end up with the inside of clamping area relatively parrallel

Thanks for the replies.

Shimming is out because it's the bars that are bigger than the stem. I would buy new bars before I filed a 3TTT Motus quill, just couldn't do it. It's international mail day tomorrow so I am hopeful of arrival, if not, next Tuesday I guss. I will find out when it gets here but if anyone has tried and reckons it definately won't fit then I'd be happy to hear from them.

It's all I've been able to find. I bought it on Ebay and it's awash with 26mm if you are looking for one.

I know, people say 26mm but when I get it and put the calipers on it its 25.4mm. I also need 80mm length which further limits selection. I have an almost new cinelli oyster, 130mm quill which may be 26.4mm (came off my geared road bike). I'll measure when I get home.
