After months of training with Alex and a month recovery due to a lung infection I made my first race a ITT, 14K. Road was open to vehicles, we had marshal's along the way.
The course itself was rough being old bitumen, few pot hols to go around and the entire course was undulating not flat as I expected. The wind was 25kmh and a straight cross wind. I was the last in the 14K group to go with 15 sec intervals. My HR before the event was sitting at 85, I was nervous going into the block. I have never been held before, or started a race so nerves were high and my heart rate was pinging.
I jumped out of the block, I wanted to keep a tempo at 34kmh, but I was sitting on 40kmh at 1.5k. I settled back into 34kmh, with the wind it made the first part of the course difficult but I was comfortable. The 7K mark was 30m steep incline, at the turn my legs began to burn, I came out setting a tempo at 30kmh. The return leg was tougher, I didn't know if I was making time on the first riders. My arms were parallel, head down, hands on the hoods trying to get as aero as possible.
I caught the guy in front of me with 2k to g and I put the hammer down, sitting on 40kmh, over the line, my heart rate hit 175.
Avg Speed. 31.51kmh
Max Speed 42kmh
Avg Heart Rate 166.
I am in love with TT's, its a solo effort, at the line I was done. Thanks to Alex for the TT tips and training over the past few months. I am looking forward to the next training period.
Prelim results came in, I've come in 3rd and 1st in my age group. results to come to me on Monday or Tuesday. With the wind everyone was hurting! There is another 3 TT's to go for the series which I want to win now!!! I am hooked on racing!!

Nice work!
Isn't it amazing how it doesn't even seem hard at that stage?RobRollin wrote:I jumped out of the block, I wanted to keep a tempo at 34kmh, but I was sitting on 40kmh at 1.5k.

Well done Rob, and a good result to boot.
TT's are quite adictive. Certainly my favourite form of racing I think.
No tactics. No games. Just you v the clock.
Pure racing.
