cycle touring

Postby thebenz » Sun Aug 09, 2009 3:29 pm

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum thing, althought I've been riding to work every day for a while now on my trusty Bianchi.

Does anyone know how I can contact cycle touring groups?
I want to investigate a few trips but need to plan re weather etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

G'day

Welcome to the forums. Moved your posting to the Touring Australia section as I assume you are referring to touring in Australia.

Also given the size of Australia, it would help to say where you are, then maybe someone can make some relevant suggestions :)

Regards
Andrew

I don't know of any cycle-touring groups as such, but local bicycle clubs often keep in good contact with each other and they'll be able to find out about longer bicycle rides that you may be interested in. It also depends on what sort of touring you like to do. I tend to go for over-night or day-tours, but you can probably find plenty of people who are interested in going for longer tours of up to a week or more.

Yes, it would help very much if you can give a general region you want to tour in. Try Bicycle Fish for a lot of general info especially about SA and the outback routes.

Do you want route info, gear advice or are you after a cycle touring group?

An extensive list of cycling clubs (of all types) is here. Type 'touring' as a keyword search to refine the list.

Note: I am a member of Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club, if you're in Victoria talk to me about it
