Trek Pilot 1.0
Postby CoffeeNut » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:58 pm
I'm riding a hybrid at the moment and looking at a road bike. - something a little more serious, but I'm not after a full racing posture.
I like the looks of the Pilot 1.0 - I'll test one out tomorrow. $1000 is about the most I would like to spend. Anyone have opinions on the quality or value for money of the Pilot 1.0 at about $1000?
And what competing options are there ?
Any ideas most apreciated:)

The Giant OCR 3 is similar in spec and riding position to the Trek Pilot 1.0
As "Relaxedness" goes:
Trek Pilot 1.0 > Giant OCR 3 (or 2) > Trek 1000
The Pilot is a very relaxed geometry and has extra brake levers on the flats. The extra levers aren't as useful as you think, although some people like them.
The OCR 3 is cheaper and lower spec this year, old 07 models are similar spec and price. The 08 OCR 2 is about the spec/price of the Pilot 1.0 now.
Have a ride on a Trek 1000 too to compare, which is a more race oriented geometry and similar spec/price.

G'day CoffeeNut.
Welcome to the asylum. Us Trek owners have special room off to the left next to the pharmacy
I'll be interested to hear your experiences with the Pilot. I didn't look at them because I wanted a steel frame but otherwise, they make a lot of sense to me. So if your riding matches what I do (read around the forum a bit), you should be very happy with her.
Bung up some pictures when you get her. If you're still within the 'no pics post' period and are so excited the pictures have to go up 'now', put them up on the net and then send the links to me - I'll put them up for you.

G'Day Coffeenut, welcome
Looks like you've made a nice choice there mate. Get out there and have fun, then come back and tell us all about it.

My wife is already looking at me with the "you going riding again?" look....
I noted on one of the other posts about how the buying and then riding experience needed to be 'emotional' - all about getting and sustaining the bug. Well, I made the right D for sure. I'm surprised at how comfortable it is so quickly - I'm only doing 20km rides as I get back into it, but no sore backside and all the angles and positions must be about right as I'm not hurting anywhere. It seems very agile to me - and yet I have heard the Pilot is more stable than the 1000/1500 brothers?

If you aren't used to road bikes, any road bike will feel very fast and agile. It took me about a week of riding my OCR before it stopped feeling twitchy and unstable. If you're used to racing bikes then a bike like the Pilot will feel relaxed.
It's a good sign you're enjoying it!

If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?
