Cycle Queensland 2009

Postby Max » Thu Aug 13, 2009 7:10 pm

Cycle Queensland 2009 is less than a month away! This is my first CQ, and also my first multi-day cycling tour. I'm very excited about it and really looking forward to it! :D Is anyone else from BNA going?

I'm a volunteer again. Are you aiming on doing any of the optional extra distance?

I have a lot of respect for you volunteers! I reckon it'd be pretty hard work. I'm not planning to the do the longer distances, but BestMate is giving it some thought. He has better legs than me though. My legs prefer distances under 100Km :)

I was sorely tempted to enrol but ........
got a mate's wedding on the first sunday,
my son needs me to make him do his homework that week (his mum away at conference)
my dog not keen on going to the kennels for the week
So alas... not this year. Hopefully next yr.
I have been on one cycle queensland ride years ago.
A few yr ago, one of my work friends went on it, but abandoned it after a few days because of wet weather.
Another friend did it last yr and had a great time
Hope you have a great time, Max and all others too

Epic cycles bike shop was furiously busy this morning.
The guys were busy loading up a large flat-bed truck with bits and pieces presumably for the on-tour mechanical support.
There was another empty truck also.
Don't know for sure but perhaps it is destined to be a bike-transport vehicle
Made me want to be a part of the action.
:(

Well, CQ 2009 was just AWESOME! I had a fantastic time. LittleWheelsandBig, without you and the other volunteers, it just would not have run as smoothly as it did. I was very impressed with how well run it was. Yeppoon 2010, here I come!

Hi, my Daughter Jasmine & I had a ball on the ride. She was in a chariot (aka Sea Queen) - really looking forward to next year's one as she will be in a tag-a-long. No more chariot towing for me.

Adrian, I saw you and your daughter many times on the ride! She looked like she had a fantastic time. I take my hat off to you, mate, pulling that trailer must've been an awesome effort. :D

I have a heap of photos of the event, though I stopped taking happy snaps after about the fourth or fifth day - much of the scenery repeated itself over the days and I admit that by the end of it, I was more focussed on getting up those hills than on stopping for camera breaks. You can find my photos here.

Hi Max,
Welcome back and it sounds like you had a great time. Should the order of photos change to the picture of Nobey Pub then the 'next morning' shots

The chap Brian (riding a recumbent) took lots of photos as well.

His website is;

It might be a while before he uploads his photos but they should be good ones.

Hi Max

Loved the write up on your blog. For me it felt like I ended up seeing the same farmers field from 4 different directions. I'm looking forward to next years already - this time Jasmine will be on a tag-a-long! I really flaked on the last day as my ITB really hurt and I struggled to be able to accelerate. I ended up coming in about 10th last person and everyone was well and truly gone.

Given his seating position he certainly has an advantage when taking photos. Better than trying to ride with one hand taking photos.

For the 2009 Cycle Queensland I was a part-time volunteer.

My volunteer job was in the clean up team.

Hope to be a part-time volunteer on Cycle Queensland 2010
