looking for the longest touring female Australian cyclist...

Postby tourdottk » Wed Oct 28, 2009 6:08 am

Hi,
I was just curious if my wife is the longest touring female Australian cyclist (ever)?
She has cycled over 40,000 kilometres so far in the last 39 months. Currently in Peru.
Anybody that can beat that :?:
Thanks,
Aaldrik (proud husband)

There is a lady down the street from me who rides her bike quite a bit who is 6ft 2inches.

Does that count for the longest touring female cyclist? :)

Sorry.

Aaldrik,

Congratulations to Son and yourself for this incredible enterprise and a fascinating website. The information there is like gold. We live in a market dominated by self promotion and brand identification - a thick fog of bulldust, actually. But you pair are documenting the ultimate road test and some of the results are stunning. I just read the section on tyres and had my own prejudices well and truly exposed. I know Cheng Shin tyres (but have never used them) and before I read your reports my prejudice would have been that they were cheap Taiwanese tyres for people would couldn't afford Schwalbe Marathons.....well, you have certainly blown that prejudice out of the water !

I'm not suggesting that there is anything 'wrong' with Schwalbe Marathons - they are a good tyre - but from your experience there isn't anything wrong with the Cheng Shin's either ...except their lack of reputation...and what they lack in reputation they also lack in price ! We are so suckered by clever marketing. There nothing like a word of mouth recommendation from someone who speaks from genuine experience to off set the marketing claims and the opinions of brand identifiers.

Looking for the longest touring female cyclist ? She is somewhere in South America...

Hi Cranky,
thanks for your kind reply.
Those Cheng Shins actually lasted 10,000 kilometres. A lot of flat tyres in the end, but hey... :D We managed to buy some more of them in Cali, Colombia and Sonya is happy pedalling along on the new ones now. We scored some second-hand Marathons XR in La Paz, it was all that was available, but they are very heavy. Not that it made any difference when we cycled through twenty centimetres of deep sand...
Happy holidays, ciao from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile,
Aaldrik and Sonya
