Kermese?

What is a kermese race ? Is it a long crit ?

I hadn't heard of a Kermesse race before, but just did some googling and it seems that it's very similar to a crit, but a longer circuit and over a longer, set distance.

Inaminit nailed it - a kermesse race is circuit based (like a criterium race) over a set distance (whereas a criterium is for a set time, followed by a specified number of laps).

I remember seeing a National Lampoons cartoon of frogs on crutches and in wheelchairs heading out of a Franch restaurant The image has stuck with me for about 20 years so far, it was a classic.

I think they have a strong tradition in belgium with race distance around 100-160km.
