team GB not team sky kit very popular on freeway PSP

Postby nickobec » Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:13 pm

Did I miss the announcement that Team Sky are in Perth or did a local shop have a special on their kit. Saw two riders on Monday and three today in Team Sky kit on my trip up the PSP to Perth

The first two had identical red CF bikes (not close enough to see if they where Pinnies) and probably the same pair I saw on Monday. The third, on a similar CF bike but blue.

*** realised it was team GB sponsored by Sky TV so editted title to reflect that 25 Jan 2010 ****

The GB track team is in town at the moment - I'm assuming they are still sponsored by Sky.

That explains it, Team GB colour with SKY plastered over them and they looked like track riders - ie people you do not want to mess with. No scrawny climbers there.

Always preferred track cats than scrawny climbers :P

It is team GB kit not team sky kit my bad

Did not see any this morning but did sit behind 4 young fit guys doing a recovery ride on some very expensive kit this morning

On the way home did see one team GB kit heading into town, looked like a lot of riding into the doctor and was heading back.

I rode past a group of Team GB guys this morning, they were passing over the Narrows bridge at 8:00am. Probably 6 or 7 of them in fresh gear out enjoying the perfect weather. Yeah definately not tour riders would be correct.

Just noticed that the last post was almost 2 years ago, well they're back. Not sure what they'd be training for. I was on a Pina and wearing Team Sky apparal at the time so that was a confusing moment. Nice gear that Sky stuff..

Yep. They are here.

A few pics on the Star Physio WA Facebook page.

Guessing you probably don't want to take these guys on ;-)

I see Dani King and Laura Trott have also made their mark at the SPR crits at Tech Park. I waved to them on my Tuesday morning commute as they flew past and I was heading into the city.

Also the Meyer brothers plus Luke Durbridge from GreenEdge are around, knocking out crits and TTs.

Yeah I followed Cameron Meyor and someone else from the Narrows to Russell Road early this year just after the TDU. No I don't think I'll be taking those guys on but to ride with them and gauge yourself would be interesting, one guy past me doing about 55km/h this morning along the Freeway Bike Track. I managed to stay with him but it felt ultra dangerous with all manner of things coming in the other direction. I swear this commuting thing is becoming quite serious but thankfully I haven't seen to many crashes. What Crits are they doing? I wouldn't mind to go watch..

The whole GB track team is here including Sir Chris Hoy, the are training at the speed dome 4 days a week and obviously out and about on the road and paths. Cameron, Travis and Luke are here for xmas with family and getting ready for the National Road Champs and TDU. The 3 have been racing Crits and TT. with (as expected) good results.

Pretty sure I was passed by Sir Chris and a female rider (track physique) going south, PSP from the narrows. Stayed with them into the 20 knot headwind until my 50/16 SS gear spun out! Some power there.

I warned my husband as he does have a tendency to chase anyone that passes him. Turns out he had already chased them along the freeway PSP doing 45km/h and they were just cruising!

Ah yeah, that must have been them I passed at Mt Lawley station. I was too busy puffing my way up the 'hill' there to pay much notice. They did seem very relaxed.

I spotted team GB too! :P
Yes chances are guys they're riding bikes, so are you people do see people!
They're here training because, don't quote me on this one, the head coach at WAIS used to coach team GB mark cavendish ect so they've got an agreement that athletes can go and train. They're everywhere with their pinarellos, I saw them in Midland while heading to the track then later at the track session monday night and multiple times around the place. They sure stand out.
