Harden up, princesses..... >:)

Postby twizzle » Sun Jan 17, 2010 11:40 am

Second in the 45 minute C/D crit this morning, dominating the race with surges and sprints, on the front for half the race, over 300W average, faster laps than A/B...

... and did I mention I dislocated my little toe yesterday?

Trust me, it takes real 'skill' to decorate a foot that way. Take one foot, one copy of "Tour De Force", walk out of the bathroom while reading a funny passage from the book to your wife (the bit about stupid superstitions)... and catch your little toe on the door frame. Then put the toe back in place - because having a toe sticking out the side of the foot is NOT euro-cool.

Then decide that you just can't miss the race the next day. And yes, it does hurt...

Unfortunately, some of the guys I race with are awesome sprinters, and I'm not.

PS - "Hello B Grade" for Tuesday night. There's a few of us moving up before we get moved involuntarily.

Getting foot into shoe... tricky.
Racing... not too bad.
Commuting to work today and riding over bumps.... Ouch!

Xrays in an hour. If there's anything floating, I'm going on crutches.

Ah, but you only STARTED a 100km run. (I can't see the image at work, so I'll have to look tonight).

Just had the XRays done - I have to wait for the report, but from the initial appraisal it seems there is a problem. I'll find out after 2:30.

I did actually finish the run, but admittedly it wasn't a very good time. I hope you don't have any issues that keep you off the saddle long term. Good luck with your appointment.

Good news that you don't have a break. But then there's no impact with cycling anyway so you sissies shouldn't have a problem with the odd sore toe.

I damaged my toe running 160km in 19 hours at Coburg in April. Then in June I made it worse running 182km in 20 hours at Brisbane. But the 100k was in late July in Caboolture. Probably shouldn't have done that..... Did learn a few things about nutrition planning though so alls good

Oh trust me, I felt every bump in the road today. :(

Sorry about the crappy picture quality, I don't have a slide scanner so had to improvise with a bike light.

Actually, he does - that's what fracture in non-displaced fracture means. Just means it hasn't moved out of alignment too much, which is good. The "near-a-joint" bit is a complication - not so good possibly. Will need the orthopaedic specialist to determine best course and follow-up etc.,.

Oow bugger that is a nasty fracture and right through by the looks of it!!

Mate if that had happened to me they would have had to wheel me around the criterium in a wheelchair.

Talk about HTFU.

Doctor's position (and confirmed with a quick google) is that unless it's displaced or in the big toe, they don't bother with it. I don't even get crutches.

Lol - at least the fracture explains why it hurts so frikken much if I try and put a regular shoe on.

Great news. Surely he recommended at least a nice stiff soled shoe. Wonder what you've got that fit's that bill ? Cycling shoes :)

Thongs, actually. Only thing that's comfortable...

Can't sprint out of the saddle, can't ride over bumps, but can race and train on the circuit. :)

Just an update...

- 11 days before I was able to get out on the road due to the pain in the toe over bumps.
- 15 days before I could fit that foot into a regular shoe.

And I still can't bend it much, after 30-odd days.

Bummer! Get some of those pain relief sticks, that the ambulance blokes carry with them, and suck on one every half hour. 8) Shouldn't feel anything after a while.
