On the shoes I was wearing when I had my stack, the cleat is broken.

Interesting
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Fair bit of wear there too. I wonder if walking on them weakened them (maybe you stepped on something). At least you've got a reason for the cleat letting go - worn cleat not the system, and I think you'd find that comforting.

The break is from the inside outwards. No doubt that the wear in the cleats contributed to the break. I have no idea whether the cleat caused the accident or not.

Ironically I had new cleats in my bag and was going to change them at the end of the session.

I've gone for 0% float

Fair enough, though I thought the idea was to allow your body to do those sorts of things if it wanted to. Are there limits to that or times when you should try to control it?

They 0% float cleats good this morning. With 0% float you need to get the cleats setup just right, as you don't have float to deal with the setup error.

They felt good this morning, with them just setup by line of sight, but I'm going to put my shoes in a jig to check the alignment.

For training and racing, I have old shoes that I use for commuting.

0 deg is good if you align the cleats correctly and bad if you don't align them correctly.

Still think you are brave,I much prefer the float, but if you have not had problems before spose you know what you are doing
Just got back from a cruisy 25k's...bit chilly out there and my throat was still a bit coarse but the legs felt good.Trying to decide if I join the boys for a big one or go and do my own thing.

Yes that was me, I had heavy white track gloves on.

Where did you see me?

Edit: This was my first hard ride.

Hey Mike,

Pardon my ignorance here, but by 0 deg. float do you mean that the cleats are fully tightened on the shoe? So this means that usually they loose enough to allow your foot to pivot from side to side, yes?

Kev.

Yes, the cleats don't move in the pedals.

You were stopped on first set of traffic light after Sutherland……..I was heading back from Waterfall when I was stopped on same set of lights but at opposite direction………
Anyway, thinking of joining your club soon……..still can not decide in between DHBC ,Sutherland and Waratah…….would like to try racing one day………and soon!

If you join from the 1st October, you get a 2008 racing license that's effective immediately, so you get 15 months for 12 months cost. So its a good time to join.

Regardless of which club you join, you can complete in most road/track races regardless of which club hosts the race.

DHBC has track training on Monday and Wednesday nights at Canterbury (Tempe) Velodrome. Drop by one night and check it out.

Sogood and I are DHBC members, TooLongLegs is a Watarah Vets member, I'm not sure who from Sutherland is on this site.

Did my first real training ride Yesterday, I rode upto Waterfall with the club and this time I went with the fast riders, who decided to gun it on the hills on the way up and dropped everyone below B grade except me who held on for dear life. Going thru Sutherland I was having problems with my hands going numb, not just the injured one but the other one too, I'm thinking it may be my track gloves. I decided to sit on and see what happens and the problem didn't get any worse. At the turn I let them get a couple of bike lengths ahead and then I just sat there through the fast 10k. Conclusion is that I have lost about 10% fitness which is much better than expected. I'm thinking of 11th November at the Tennis Centre for my first race.

Dosen't sound like you have lost too much at all, just need to get back racing to bring up the intensity.I went out with a mate to my local cyclepath course today...I told him to give me 1 minute headstart then chase( he is 12 years younger!),I gave it everything and considering I am still blocked up from my cold last week went pretty good. 5.7km of up and down,he passed me 300meters from the finish like I was standing still!.I managed 10.38 which is 19secs faster than my best so far...but my mate did a 9.15mins,which must be 5km av faster!.Bugger.My aim is to break 10mins but I don't think 9.15 is ever with in my reach....and he isn't even in form at the mo!.

Lost a front brake pad today, so rode home with just rear brakes. Had a nice tail wind but had to ride at L1 cos of the brakes.

Not exactly playing it 100% safe for my hand, oh well.
