13th Feb Uriarra Ride, anyone?

Postby yyeric » Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:47 pm

I plan to follow Amy's Ride 64km version starting the ANU on 13th Feb the Saturday.

Route as per the link http://www.cyclingprofiles.com.au/HTM/R ... 201064.htm

Any one wants to tag along?

It's not about finishing quickly but about familiarise with the road a bit more.

Open to other options like riding the 30km version instead.

I'd be keen if it is in the morning. I need to be home (Kambah by 12pm) so i'd prob peel off at Weston on the way back in depending on time.

I aim to start at probably 7:30 at ANU Union or probably Scrivener Dam if it suits people better.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't mind jumping in if possible. I've only just moved back to town so wouldn't mind learning a few of the decent rides. Just let me know when and where your starting and I'll be there

Where: Scrivener Dam (Google Map)

When: 7:30AM 13th Feb 2010 Saturday

Route: Cotter Road - Stromlo Forest Park - Uriarra Road - Brindebilla Road - Cotter Road (routed in Google Map)

PS: Not travelling on Lady Demon Drive to go to Cotter Road though. Will use the bike path to go to the traffic light at intersectionof Cotter Road and Streeton Drive (here)

Distance: 40km

Route Profile once hit Uriarra Road: http://www.cyclingprofiles.com.au/HTM/R ... 201064.htm

This is the information that I have thought of so far.

Looks good. I will confirm where i will meet the group on Friday, likely to be either at those traffic lights or at the entrance to SFP.

Don't want to play down the chances of the ride, but just checked BoM.

Saturday Rain, possibly heavy. Min 18 Max 24

This surely doesn't look good.

Hey guys, what kind of speed are you looking at for this Uriarra-Cotter loop?

I had a look at my Garmin log this year and it's averaged 25kmh on all long rides. So I guess I will keep to somewhere around that.

I figure around 25km/h. I did the loop from SFP last week in 1hr 40min which is about 21.3km/h but was going at my mates speed so should be able to ramp it up a bit.

I plan to be there.

I may need coffee afterwards :) I'll probably ride over from Hackett if anyone is coming from that direction.

If it's raining when you are able to head out, just give it a miss. It's not like the loop will go anywhere.

See you guys 7:30 at Scrivener Dam for those that are coming.

Sorry guys have to bail. The DisAbility ACT guys need pilots for Sunday tandem ride so I'm doing that instead which means Sunday chores are now saturday :( Enjoy the ride, and if any of you ever want to help by piloting a tandem bike so a vision impaired cyclist can get a ride, drop me a message and I'll put you in contact with the right people.

I'm out as well, pretty wet down this end of town from overnight rain and it just started again. Have fun those that do venture out, massive props from me for the effort. I just don't have good wet weather gear yet so the ride would be pretty miserable for me.

2.5 hour riding time. and 1 hour of cleaning bike? Doesn't add up to me.

Nice ride though. Thanks Rob for coming along.

As promised. the ride averaged 25km/h.

Hope will get more people next time.
