G'day Croat,

Welcome to the nuthouse and being a dirt rider, you'll fit right in :D

My son recently bought the Evolution, which I'm pretty sure is the next level up from the Ascention - similar or same frame with slightly better bits. It's a well made, well set up bike with good quality components. It works very well and he loves it (apart from the noise the nobblies make on the road). It's entry level mtb - a serious mud bunny could probably start to break things, but it'll do him and would do me to be honest - I'm not brave enough to get into true bike breaking territory.

I think the advice would be - if you're planning to be serious about mountain biking and can afford a higher level bike, get the better bike. If you're just out there enjoying the bush and banging around in places that would make your roadie shudder, it's a good bike at a good price. As always, buy the best you can, but this isn't cheap rubbish either.

Richard
I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

My brother has the 2007 Ascent which is a nice bike. I think that drive system you may find a little lacking if you are hitting dirt trails.

Where abouts are you?
I am considering selling my Apollo Enduro if you are interested. Much better specs SRAM X7, rockshox ...

Goodonya Croat, welcome to the world of dirt :D

My first MTB was a 96 Apollo, full rigid CroMo and very basic compared to what you get for todays cash, but she was beautiful, 'til she got pinched  Still burns.

Can't really comment on current Giant MTBs, my Princess is an 04 Rainier with major mods and she's still a bundle of sweet riding joy. :D :D

Get out there and get sweaty mate, you deserve it.

Congrats. Have fun with the new bike. Apollo make some nice units.
