Whats the shortest track race event?
Postby retro rider » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:34 pm
I'm best at 30 - 60 secs and can leave pretty much everyone I have ever lined up against but after that I'm spent.

Not necessarily. Flying 200 is often a separate event at some carnivals, particularly sixes.alex wrote:flying 200 is only a qualifying event anywayCorsa wrote:Flying 200.

GO THE GUY ON THE RIGHT! (I'm a CCCC member)mikesbytes wrote:While technically the flying 200, which technically is a time trail and a time trail is a race. Then there's one lap screamer on a 250mtr track, where you go head to head with other riders.
I am in a similar situation to the OP, I can sprint no worries but give me an endurance event and I am toast. I want to get some endurance though, as I think it is better to be a well-rounded rider than a one-trick pony. Apparently it is easier for sprinters to gain endurance, and not so easy for vice versa. So looks like I will be hitting the roadie HARD over the winter.
Flying 200 is definitely the shortest event, but can still be pretty taxing all the same. I know I am usually pretty deep in oxygen debt by the end of a big effort. I did a 13.66 flying 200 the other night, an improvement of over 0.8 sec from the start of the season. (its my first season too) I was pretty wobbly when I got off my bike, but a couple lollies put me back on the level.
I am going to miss track once the season is over, I would have a punt at RAW but I don't think I'm good enough. And I have never ridden a timber track so wouldn't want to stack and take out everyone else with me!

if you have good acceleration then the best event for you is probably the 250m time trial. it is a standing start and generally one lap if racing on a 250m track
this event has become so serious the Americans now have a national championship for this event

True, but sprinting requires (wait for it)... thinking, it's not just about speed, brendan wrote:hey, i know this question was about distance, but if the guy says he's a sprinter, why hasn't anyone recommended.... wait for it.... sprints?
it's one-on one match racing (war) and tactics play a major part.
Best as a newbie, to stick to shorter TT's (KISS) and built up... take it gradual.
Then gradually gain experience in match racing, and after "time" you may be ready,
to be a Sprinter (if you've got what it takes).
Hope that helps.
Cheers
