Great Ocean Road brevet

Anyone intending to do the GOR brevet on the 13th of March?
I'm intending to do the 200 k ride. Be good to see a couple more 'bents! Simon?

Wooow! I think I'll be interested in that Rob.
I notice they are limiting each group to 30 riders only.
200K is a good ride but not impossible going through the mountains (hills). Would be an excellent ride I'm sure.

I'll be staying overnight somewhere in Anglesea and taking the 8:30 route.
The mountain range will be a challenge but coming down into Lorne will be exciting...
I also saw Steve Nurse on the list too so will be at least a few bents on this ride.

Probably travel up in the morning. Should be a good ride!

The family will becoming with me the night before. We'll be staying in Aireys Inlet Holiday Park.
I've tried talking them into being my support crew so they hand over bottles and such while I'm riding. They just want the beach, the pool and see ya at the end Dad. Oh! well.

Looking at the ride data the first 4.5 K's out of Anglesea is uphill, followed by uphill and then some uphill, then downhill to Lorne and then uphill downhill for the rest of the journey. Very interesting (why do my legs feel like they're hurting just looking at the map).
Its my first Audax ride so not sure what to expect.

William,
make sure you have electrolyte replacement drinks, and some energy gels. This one should be pretty well supported, but you really need to keep your energy levels up, and keep hydrated. If you do that, you should be good!
Just remember to pace yourself.
The good thing about this ride, is that all the climbing is done in the first 50 k's, after that its pretty easy riding, as long as we don't have a headwind coming home!
If you aim for a 20k avg. overall, including stops, you'll finish in plenty of time.

20kmh average eh. That would leave me out. I've never averaged that in my life. More like 12 or 14. Guess they'll have to create Slow Audax or the likes of me.

Actually John, an Audax ride of that distance, you are only required to maintain 15 kph avg. overall, including stops. Quite doable really.
as an aside, went on a group ride with my DF mates today, well 4 of us anyway, and we averaged 30.7 kph! (for around 68 k's)
Have to admit, I think I was partly responsible for pushing that average up a bit! I think I was feeling particularly good this morning,

Due to a change for a family function, I;m having to re-organise my Saturday a bit,
Consequently, I've opted out of the 200k ride, and doing the early 150k ride instead.
Hopefully that'll allow me to get in a decent ride and make my family commitment!

Very understandable.
Lucky for me the family is coming although they may be doing their own thing, I'll be doing mine. If I'm lucky I'll get to see them in Lorne or somewhere along the way.
Looking at the list it has turned out to be a successful ride as far as numbers go, I just hope I don't get lost. As non Audax members do you have to have brevet cards and get them signed at the check points?
Even if I get lost the weather is looking perfect after this previous weekend of hail and wind.
Better take a camera too.
