Thankfully I am on the mend, and getting back up to my regular 90km a week, though I am around 300km behind my target for this time of the year, none the less, this isnt about me.
I dunno if it was the new conti on the front @110psi (Went from 32's to 28's front and back) or the favourable winds yesterday, but I smashed it home from Braddon to Ngunnawal, and have been smashing it on 28's compared to 32's.
There is a particularly nasty hill heading west from the last turn into mitchell up and into Gunghalin with Palmerston on your left.
With favourable winds, I was able to smash this hill mostly at around 28/30kmh, and hit the steep peek top at around 20 - got my heart up to 180bpm which has only ever happened up Black Mtn, but damn it felt good.
Done 16km, mostly uphill (Some flats, some down) from Braddon to Far end of Ngunnawal in around 50 minutes.
Also invested in panniers for winter so I can take my SLR in to work on those awesome foggy sunrise canberra mornings.

24.5 kms there and back, 1hr 10mins there, 2 mins more on the way back (i figure im allowed to be 2 mins slower at days end)
im not gettin to the quietly confident/shitting myself stage for next weeks AGF ride, ive done a 65km ride, but id love to be 5-10kgs lighter to do this ride!!

Yeah, there was definitely perfect conditions for Gungahlin Drive last night. I did Casino - Nicholls in 36 minutes at about 7pm. Today it was a little bit windier, and probably 3 or 4 minutes slower. All the more reason to get a new bike that isnt a 13kg hybrid says IDaNmAn wrote: I dunno if it was the new conti on the front @110psi (Went from 32's to 28's front and back) or the favourable winds yesterday, but I smashed it home from Braddon to Ngunnawal, and have been smashing it on 28's compared to 32's.

ps. If anyone ever sees a dude round the gunghalin, inner north/braddon traps, with a big St Michael tattoo on his calf, panniers, cell hybrid and a goatee, say Hi, its likely to be me

No doubt. On that week with plenty of rain, I drove in twice from Nicholls. 50 minutes to get 14k's and then $10 for the privilege of parking. Ridiculous.DaNmAn wrote:gassyndrome wrote:All the more reason to get a new bike that isnt a 13kg hybrid says I

Dont think I've ever seen you around before. I rock a white Scott hybrid, panniers, and usually have my mouth open and panting.

Did a PB over the first 5km......did another PB over the next 5km so was feeling good. Switched off auto lap on the GPS and away I went for a LBG 20km run. Happy to say did a PB of 35:54 . What made it even better was there was next to no wind. My previous PBs have always been quite windy so half the lap I am flying with a tail wind then the other half grinding it out into a head wind. Today was just me against the world . Took 36sec off over my previous best effort.

Was actually planning on driving into Belco, dumping the van and going on my ride, but the van failed to proceed (fuel pump issue... bad weekend ahead) so I rode out to Hume and back.
Good thing I got the ride in - rainfall predictions say it will keep raining until some time Monday. Might have to pull the trainer out of the shed...

Yeah but every now and again its good to test what my legs have in them over a course I've ridden many times in the past few years.twizzle wrote:Repeat after me.... Turning point today - I realised I don't need the Garmin any more. Other than for BS stuff like "and I climbed 800m today".

I'm tired and stuff, but the best way to describe how I felt this afternoon after it was over would be stunned.
