Completed: Forum Update Thursday 18.03.2010 (AT) 10:30 PM
Postby AUbicycles » Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:07 pm
Approx 10:30pm Sydney EST the forum will go into maintenance mode - no forum access
Updates could take 2 - 4 hours (may more if there are issues).
The forum will be temporary turned off and updated. Due to the size of the forum it is a big task and has taken a lot of hours already preparing and doing test runs - aim is for minimal disruption and no lost posts.
--
Once the update(s) are complete, the forum will be accessible again - it will be essentially the same though with one or two new things that the updated software brings with it. Following the update - performance will be tuned. The performance improvements are both targeting hardware and software so that the site/forum is faster and there are less problems during peak hours.
Any questions? Ask here.
Cheers
Christopher (Admin)
Reason: Added time of maintenance start.

Kickoff may be 10pm however I need to confirm - when I get confirmation it will be included in the initial post.
For the software improvements / updates, you can have a look at phpbb. Certainly security improvements and I understand a few more functions. I didn't see anything mindblowing or totally different however staying current is pretty important and I havn't been able to tackle this sooner.

Use the Force Shaun - once I hook this baby up you'll be having laser beams coming out of your eyes and shooting anything that moves

Adam of Websitemanagers has been kindly supporting me (server side) during the update and it seems that all has gone smoothly.
I have noticed a few minor cosmetic issues - and will be onto them plus will shortly add two new forums.
Thank you everyone for the patience and understanding.

Me too, as interesting as those articles are, I only need to read them once.RobertFrith wrote:Hmmm.. since the update "view active topics" (my favourite button on BNA/ACF) has only returned 6 topics, all of them from either the new Vélo Femme or Cycling Health boards.

They are only on the entry page. If there is majority support (please start a new topic in forum feedback) then I will consider removing it.

I've never used the "view active topics" button, so just tried it and it only showed topics from Women's cycling or Cycling Health.RobertFrith wrote:Hmmm.. since the update "view active topics" (my favourite button on BNA/ACF) has only returned 6 topics, all of them from either the new Vélo Femme or Cycling Health boards.

I'm sure there must be other active topics on the board.

If it does become problem, we may have to look for another solution, so keep me updated.

I use the "view new posts" link, which gives me all posts that have been updated since my last visit. I think the "view active topics" will give you threads that contain posts that have been very recently updated ie in the last X number of minutes.blkmcs wrote:I've never used the "view active topics" button, so just tried it and it only showed topics from Women's cycling or Cycling Health.RobertFrith wrote:Hmmm.. since the update "view active topics" (my favourite button on BNA/ACF) has only returned 6 topics, all of them from either the new Vélo Femme or Cycling Health boards.

Active topics working as it used to to do. The board appears to rank topics by the date of the most recent post, however I think it factors in the view count as well as I feel sure I've seen topics rise to the top on the basis of views when there have been no new posts for a while.Max wrote:I think the "view active topics" will give you threads that contain posts that have been very recently updated ie in the last X number of minutes.
To see "view new posts" one must be logged in. "View active topics" is always available.
