Jerra Wetlands Cycle Path

Postby rockviewau » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:11 pm

So according to the TAMS website, the new bike path is supposed to be opening Thurs nite at 6pm, thus my first opportunity will be Friday to ride it. Anyone else keen for a look on Friday?? Or does anyone know if its opening/not opening.

Should be good, hopefully we can do a full LBG lap now :)

I ride past their everyday, from what I can see from Diary Road through the car park, it looks very good, nice wide concrete path.

It's lovely, I have already ridden it on Easter Saturday - the construction fences were easy to get around. It was pretty much finished unless they were going to paint a centre line on it.

This morning I noticed a chalked centre line, so paint shouldn't be far away.

This is the link to complete LBG right? How far will a full lap be now? I'll have to try and crank one out every morning prework methinks...

I rode part of it last weekend, nice surface. Somebody told me it's been built to keep bikes off the wetlands walking paths.

I did it as well, the entire LBG loop clocked in at about 28.5km.

Still a bit of work to be done but its a nice path so far :)

Rode it today.
Spoke to a surveyor there (no other workers) who said that yes it is open but not officially open !
Signs and path markings have to be done yet.
Guy indicated that contrators have unofficially opened it to prevent vandalism.. i didnt enquire further so not sure what that means.

Its nice path and yes its raised to prevent flooding.

He probably meant to prevent people from "opening" it themselves.

I'm a bit confused. I'm pretty sure I found the start of it off Dairy Rd, but then the new path only went for a few hundred metres before I ended up on residential roads through the back of Kingston foreshore. Did I miss a lakefront path or something?

Nope. The path only goes through a small part then you are back onto roads until you get around near the Old Bus Depot. I've read it will eventually follow the water front once all the development in that area is complete ie. 5years or so

Its a heap better now and you can steer well clear of the causeway  . I Accidentally rode in there a few years back and by god did I turn around quickly :P. The current route still takes you by the morgue though, always some nice sites to see ;)

Unless it's been raining in which case there is a massive long puddle completely blocking the road where CCC used to have the crit start/finish.

I measured 28.5km yesterday. I didn't go around the edge of the lake at Lennox Gardens (just along the Flynn Drive bike path) but did take the detour out towards the Museum instead of up and over the hill at the ANU.

That matches my measurements, I do Lennox Gardens (while they are doing the Comm bridge works) but skip the Museum leg. So prob with both the longer options it would clock in around 29km.

Now i've got 15km, 20km or 29km options when i go around the lake :)

From my place over Comm Ave bridge and back is about 29km, Kings Ave not sure, and Dairy Flat Road about 41km.
