My First Fixie... Custom built.. =)

Postby RE53LU » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:03 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Alfa and im 23 years old. ive just recently put my car up for sale and decided to get myself a bicycle... I went to bike shop to look around to see what kind of bike i wanted and in the end i went for a fixie because of the style and trend. i didnt really like what the shops had to offer, and luckily my friend is into bicycles and has a fixie himself. So i got him to build me a bike, with my style and the color choice i wanted. Pretty much i wanted the bike the be black and has a touch of red... Transfered him some money and the ordering began. First was the frame, all black LEADER 2010 frame and fork, front wheels are gloss black AEROSPOKE with red tyres and rear wheels are SPINERGY with black tyres. i ordered a red saddle and red handle bar. cant remember the brands but all i know is that "the thing" that holds the handle bar is THOMPSON and for the seats too. My cranks are MICHE and thats all i know so far. its been a week now since ive ordered all the part. most have alraedy arrived and all im waiting for is the crank and the bottom bracket., hopefully itll be in by this week and my friend can finish building the bike by this weekend. Also ive ordered myself a GIRO IONOS helmet and Oakley Radar sunglasses... im still a newbie when it comes to bicycles in general, to be honest i have no idea what brand is good and what brand isnt. but i hope the parts ive ordered are good enough.

So far this is how it looks like... still waiting on parts to arrive. i still havent even seen it in person. this was a picture my friend sent me.

Heres a picture of my pride and joy which will be replaced with my new bike hehe

Hope you guys like my bike =)

Why the different wheels? IMO either 2 Aero's or 2 Spin's would have looked better. Also, that Aero doesn't seem to have a braking surface - but you have a front brake? You'll find braking performance is pretty sub-par with that set up - and if this is your first fixed, you'll be needing that front brake.

Little too "hip" for mine - but I hope you enjoy it and ride the hell out of it.

OMGosh, you traded your Accord ( is it Euro R ver? ) for a fixie?

How much did you bring in the Leader frame? Its a nice build up!

Sad to say there's no VTEC on bicycles

Nice work man.Not a fan of spokes meself, but It's good to see a custom build that has a personal style. It's a big kick sourcing and assembling something to suit yourself isn't it?
Beats an Off the rack number any day.
happy cycling

Thanks man.. yeh i actually did alot of window shopping and looked at fixed gear bikes.. but the best ones i saw were the Masi ultimate bike in maroon and gold color for $2000.00.... look good but didnt really dig the colours. So i told my friend to build me one instead to my own taste.

the reason why i have 2 brakes is because on my 1st day riding the fixie and trying to brake using my pedals i ended up on the floor. I myself are not into doing tricks or being able to do skillfull skids using my pedals.. i just wanted a bike to replace the car that i have for sale, to get from point A to B and be safe along the way.. and yes i do not want to end up me and the bike under someone elses car.

a reckon a black deep v on the rear would suit it better, but at least you'll stand out with with your crazy spokes!!

Brakes are the sensible option  ,as you get more confident you may drop to front only, but don't get sucked into the brakeless is cool fashion.

Looks really cool man, you'll soon realise how much more fun it pedalling 40km/h than it was driving at any speed. I dig the gekko lights and wheels! just dont forget a helmet, or you make us all look like morons... :)
What are these salesmen peddling?

Good choice of crank set and its 144BCD which gives you good choice for quality chain rings.

and $102 cheaper  from Wiggle than the other link provided there...

Its a seatpost FFS. How can anyone justify charging $175?

I do like the carbon rims on your bike and I also think that your car appears to be a bit too low. Please, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
