At the moment I don't think I'm losing weight (in fact I have put on weight since I was being careful) but I'm almost certain its muscle as I am much more defined.

Funny story - I'm cruising along off the front of the bunch... doing about 40kph, when I hear someone yell "Michael, gun it!"... so I went to warp speed, pulling about 50km/h... glanced back and he was gone. I had to slow down so he could get on my wheel before we could get our break moving again.

Keep at it Orphic!.
I had a measure up today...
Waist 91cm / Hips 103cm /Chest 103cm / Thigh 59cm
Lost a cm on the hips and waist and 4cm on the thighs...hope the thighs is just lard as I don't want to be losing muscle!.
Anyway if power stays the same or better I can't complain...staying on 2000Kcals has seemed easier the last few weeks for some reason...although weight may be dropping a little too fast.
If my back felt better I would be feeling very optimistic...but training is not going well .

- - You are eating for next week. I.e., what you did last week will show up on the scales this week. Seems obvious, but it covers, wow I ate a pizza and drank a bottle of wine last night and look I am still losing weight....
- Losing weight is personal. I had to do it my way. I can't not eat a biggish dinner. If I graze, I just end up eating more. So for me, sticking to 3 square meals was the approach. That is, I just cut out snacks.
- Small reductions can make a big difference. In essence, I cut out 450 calories a day. That is 1 coffee, two pieces of toast as a snack in the morning and an after dinner snack of say biscuits or something. Not much of a reduction but big effect.
- The program has to be sustainable. Alcohol. Look I love it. I like lots of it. I tried abstinence but, well that is not me. I set a limit that is reasonable and I can stick to. I could loose more weight if I drank less, but I am prepared to live with slower weight loss.

Agree with ft and Zysnster.Zynster wrote:Losing weight is a game of snakes and ladders. I slacked off a bit over the last month and my weight creeped up 2kg. Though I'm pretty sure some of that was muscle, some of it was also going to fat. FT has it nailed. It's the snacks that are killers. I have a weak spot for danishes. I swear they go 100% on your waistline.
Have managed to get from 102kg (post overseas trip) down to 93.2, but really need to work at the "fork control" as so succinctly put by TLL, and keep off the snacks.
For me, things like muffins etc go 150% to my waistline

I don't eat crap food, I just eat a lot of healthy food. I get sooo hungry. Particularly on hard training days.
After reading the last few points I am going to cut the small meals thing and see if big meals, less often work better for me. Maybe I'll feel better if I actually get to that point of feeling full a few times a day, rather than a little bit hungry all day long.

I can't do a shake, it needs to be something I can carry in my pocket or buy at the cafe... Preferably the latter, although I'm off the caffeine. And preferably no more than 200cals so it doesn't blow my budget. What are my options? Would skim hot chocolate fit the bill?

I used to chug those yummy honey choco drinks they sell ready to go in Oz....yum.
I have been to scared to stand on the scales ...no exercise / strong pain killers now becoming the norm and comfort / boredom eating....really need to watch it!.

You need to research it. Skim milk has a higher sugar content than Full cream. And how does chocolate, the sort put in hot chocolates compare with coffee?orphic wrote:Thinking about the above, it may be what I eat (or lack thereof) directly after training that is causing the all day hunger.

I always eat healthy...just sometimes too much.I am a bit depressed at the moment which doesn't help...4 weeks without a descent ride can do that .
Luckily I haven't put on the weight like I thought...braved standing on the scales to find I am only up 1 kilo which I can live with. While I am injured is the best time to lose weight...just got to do it!.
