First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseSo Noosa Century 2010 will be my first 100kms. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Have you any hints, tips to make this marathon [or it is to me anyway] less of a trial by fire.

Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseEat pasta the night before, drink a fair bit of water.
Take one extra spare tube, your choice of on bike munchies and the right attitude with you. Go for it! Shaun ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleasePut some jelly beans in your jersey pockets - preferably the Glucojel ones.
The only other thing I can add is: Good luck! And enjoy it. volutamus scandemus
Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseDrink when your not thirsty.
Drink when you see someone else drink. A famous and good friend of mine KenGS he says drink every 5 minutes and has a timer to tell him when to drink... interesting but effective. Take a protein bar or muslie bar and some jelly beans or snakes. Have fun..
Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseif you can ride 50km then you can ride 100kms,
if you can ride 60kms you can ride 100kms, if you can ride 80 kms you can ride 100kms, if you can ride 100kms you can ride 160kms. Speed is the variable How far away is it? Google is the answer The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass
Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseThank you for the support and tips.
I have even taken to making my own muesli bars Ride is Sunday 23rd May so have included Magnesium in a hope of delaying muscle cramps. I am expecting to take the full 5 1/2 hours allowed.... but it would be soooooo nice to be at the finish line in under 5 You can never have too many huskies
Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseMuesli bars, especially home made are good, as long as you haven't put cooked nuts in them. The oil changes when its cooked and is harder to digest. I found good quality sports drinks are essential. I used to baulk at the caffeine in them but during a long ride the caffeine helps to metabolise the carbs so you get them quicker. Also they have a different types of sugars in them, so you get both quick and slow carbs.
If you're looking for ideas re homemade sports bars, Brenda Brazier (Vegan Professional Ironman Triathlete) has a book called "The Thrive Diet". But basically he always uses dates because are high GI, and then a mix of other fruits.
Re: First 100Kms. Any words of wisdom are welcome pleaseEat by the clock - my guide is 1 muesli bar or equivalent every hour.
Drink diluted sports drink (half strength) on the bike, not water. Eat as many carbs as you can fit in for at least one day before, preferably two. With plenty of water. Eat as big a breakfast as you can AT LEAST two hours before the start. Good luck and have fun!! Steph
