When they show it like that it doesnt look real good. But maybe he should just stop moving his hands about before he attacks just to keep himself safe.
His attacks are bloody brutal though, scary power there somewhere!

Valverde...Goneski!

CAS bans Spaniard until 1st January, 2012

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has handed Alejandro Valverde a two-year suspension, effective starting January 1, 2010, for his involvement in the Operación Puerto doping scheme.

The court upheld the request of the UCI and World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) against the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC), but also refused to nullify Valverde's results prior to the start of the suspension.

Lets just hope some smart mob get their hands on a blood sample during the tour like they did to Valverde.

The other upside to that is...

The World Champion is also #1 in the world now that Alejandro Valverde has been taken out of the rankings due to his suspension.

1. Cadel Evans (Aus) BMC Racing 374
2. Philippe Gilbert (Bel) OmegaPharma-Lotto 294
3. Joaquin Rodriguez (Spa) Team Katusha 268
4. Luis Leon Sanchez (Spa) Caisse d’Epargne 222
5. Tom Boonen (Bel) Quick Step 216
6. Ivan Basso (Ita) Liquigas-Doimo 206
7. Michele Scarponi (Ita) Androni Giocattoli 203
8. Fabian Cancellara (Swi) Team Saxo Bank 200
9. Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Team Astana 185

Does it seem odd that his suspension starts Jan 1 this year?

Hi

SBS Cycling Central is reporting
Bikes used at the Tour de France will be scanned to make sure they do not contain illegal motors, the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced on Friday.

As they have started handing out grand jury subpoenas it got me wondering, why are they not stringing Floyd Landis up from the nearest tree? Yeah I understand they need to get all involved, especially the suppliers in drugs cases, but there has been no mention of his massive public fraud effort or the like. If Lance, George, Tyler etc etc go down for this, how the hell is Landis not US enemy number one?

Lance MAY have cheated his way to 7 tour wins but he hasnt dragged $1 million out of the public to pay for his defence, any money given to livestrong has gone to the right cause. George and the others at worst could only be up for fraud due to drug fueled race wins, yet Landis that as well.

Not that Im either for drug use or US Postal to be able to rule the cycling world, but surely Floyd has to be the first and hardest to get hit?

Thought that this would be of interest - sure Aushiker would have posted it if I didn't.

Prior to the TDF
Cervélo PR wrote:“Consistent with the team’s internal values, TestTeam riders are required to obtain permission from the team’s medical staff before they can use any supplements or medication,” the team reported. “This evening, the team learned that Xavier Florencio has been using a substance containing ephedrine to treat a saddle discomfort. This substance was not cleared in advance with the medical staff. This usage without clearance violates the internal policy.”

Today's Announcement
Cervélo PR wrote:When Xavier Florencio (ESP) was withdrawn from the 2010 Tour de France line-up, we indicated a full review of the situation. These are the outcomes:

1. The rider did indeed have the ailments as stated. The product he used to self-medicate is the most commonly sold over-the-counter medication to treat this ailment in Spain.
2. The rider understands and accepts the steps taken by team management to protect him and the team. In fact, this case has demonstrated why a policy to clear any medication in advance with the medical staff is so important – regular doctors and pharmacists are often not aware of the limitations placed by WADA on professional athletes.
3. The team’s medical staff has changed the medication to conform with Cervélo TestTeam policy. As such, the rider will be allowed to return to racing as soon as he is declared fit by the Chief Medical Officer of the Cervélo TestTeam. We expect this to be on July 31, at the traditional Spanish race Clásica Ciclista de San Sebastián.
Sounds like a good answer to me - and really positive to see that the Cervélo TestTeam is pro-actively taking an interest in this and providing information.

Hi
Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-Farnese Vini) has been issued with formal notification that he is under investigation as part of a widespread inquiry into doping practices being carried out in Italy by Padova-based prosecutor Benedetto Roberti. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the current wearer of the green jersey was issued with the notification that he has been placed under investigation for “the use of forbidden substances and practices” before the start of this year’s Tour de France.

Petacchi is accused of having used PFC (Perfluorocarbon) and human serum albumin. PFC can be used to increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood without raising haematocrit level. Its use in the peloton was first rumoured in 1997 as an alternative to EPO, when the UCI introduced “health checks” preventing riders with haematocrit levels in excess of 50% from competing. PFC is as yet undetectable. Human albumin, on the other hand, can be used to reduce haematocrit level. ...

Petacchi previously tested positive for salbutamol in 2007, missing the 2007 and 2008 Tours de France as a consequence.

Well thats a surprise... not.

Obviously too early to comment though what gets me is that there is serious competition around the green jersey and if one of them isn't clean it is such an anti-climax.

Now if Petacchi get's done something, what happens to his placings at Le Tour, and the subsequents points that were/should be awarded to different people.

How would that chnage the competition now ?

Dual Tour stage winner Alessandro Petacchi in Italian drug probe

Italian cyclist Alessandro Petacchi did not know he was being investigated for alleged doping practices prior to racing the Tour de France, the rider's lawyer said on Tuesday.

Petacchi, who lost the race's green jersey points competition on stage 16, is reportedly being investigated in Italy for using illegal drugs prior to the event.

Organisers of the world's biggest bike race, which finishes on Sunday, have a tough stance against any riders of team members who are at the centre of investigations into possible drugs use.

However Petacchi's lawyer Virginio Angelini said in a statement issued through his Lampre team here that the Italian sprint star only learned of the probe on July 12.

As a result, Petacchi has been called to a hearing by the Padova prosecutor, but Angelini denied Petacchi knew of the summons before the start of the race.

"The Padova prosecutor invited M. Petacchi on July 12 (and not before the start of the Tour de France as has been claimed in error) to appear at a hearing after the Tour de France to answer questions which are related, and not to the current season," said Angelini.

Italian outfit Lampre, who learned of the summons through the media, said they would support Petacchi while awaiting "further details".

Angelini said Petacchi is "ready to clarify the situation and to supply all the necessary evidence to show that he has nothing to do with this affair".

On Tuesday the ANSA news agency, quoting informed sources, alleged that two banned substances were found at the Lampre rider's home - PFC (Perfluorocarbon), an alternative to the banned blood booster EPO, and human serum albumin.

According to ANSA the inquiry began before Petacchi lined up for the start of this year's Tour, in which he has won two stages. He is also leading the green jersey's points competition with a two-point lead on Norwegian Thor Hushovd.

Beyond Petacchi, the affair is said to centre on two former teammates as well as two other amateur riders.

Petacchi, one of the most successful sprinters of his generation, was suspended for a year after the 2007 Tour of Italy for testing positive for excessive levels of the asthma drug salbutamol.

Certainly sprinters are not noted for their intellectual approach to matters.
