CX looks hilarious.

Ride around in the rain on the grass, get muddy, fall over, don't care, jump over fences, hike-a-bike and jump back on while runnng, don't care about erosion or hitting trees becasue the course is on some dude's farm in a fertile area so "fragile" soils are not an issue. Put all your old crappy parts on a road frame so it doesn't matter if they get worn out becasue they already are. Or better yet, go singlespeed.

What's not to like?

Oh, and sometimes you get to practice your mtb skills.

Nah, not me.

There's a drop like that at Ourimbah that's very makeable, but I chickened out and took the B-line as the race was the first time I'd been around the course. Obstacles like that I'd want to stop and look at closely and practice on before attempting them in race conditions.

You just take the entry slow, trail your back brake as you roll over the lip with your bum back like in the picture, stay off the front brake and roll out the bottom. You just gotta watch it as your suspension compresses from the g-forces at the bottom.

I still can't get my left arm into that position with any strength, so you won;t see me trying that for a little while. The improvement is very slow,

I've seen a couple of caad frames race locally; one had road tyres on the other was an older frame had 28 or 30mm CX tyres squeezed in.

FYI... just on the down low... real low like... chanel 9 has recently reported that elephants have a secret language that they use to communicate... wonder what that translates to.

The part that says, "Cycling Australia Aprroved," means I'll be unable to participate, but would be interested in dropping by to perhaps heckle some people...

Still not convinced that these CX events aren't a wee bit loony. But The Lance ad was very good.

But, I am thinking of building up a CX bike for those dirt roads that can take more speed than an MTB can supply. The Strathbogies has plenty of granitic earth roads that are tempting.

And.. I still can't believe all the crying sooks on this forum. Get over yourselves, it's sooks like you that events need insurance for because you'll be the first to sue if you fall off your bike. Anything you do on a bike should be at your risk.... Do you really need Bicycles Victoria or Cycling Australia permits and insurance to keep you safe? Ride your bike, and deal with the consequences of your actions, don't always look for the nanny's teet for safety. I'm out.. See you lot at the races.

Im really excited for this! I might try and locate some planks of wood to practice dismounting over.
Saw the world cup in Roubaix last year. Absolutely incredible, old blokes drinking vodka on the course, young kids with cowbells, massive team vans. If it could be half as popular here it would be amazing. Early days yet, but anyway.
Top work on subsidizing the licencing. Very helpful.
