That Maccas is 5 minutes from home in Lynbrook

I will try to commit pending work and family but should be a good thing. I have done a similar ride from Lynbrook- cranbourne - frankston - Mordialloc and back via Greens Road and I think you will be probably talking about 70km's does this sound about correct

Be good to catch you again Greyhound been away a while for work and missesd getting to Casey to wht vets.

Nice work Gruppetto!

I've put it up on Bikely but think we'll need to work on the route back to Hampton Park from Frankston (I've only put it through main roads to make a loop but not sure on their suitability) - anyone that has a route, let me know (or we could just head back the way we came?).

Looking forward to it.. I'll make sure I finish my last beer at 2.55am ;)

I have been really realy looking forward to the up and coming ride, but because I have been ill for about eight weeks and unable to ride my fitness is severely down the drain.

Because I had a trip planned to go to Cairns and visit my son for a fortnight retuning on Queens Birthday weekend, I bought a bike bag so that I could take my bike to Cairns with me and get some training in.

Unfortunately I struck a snag taking the bike with me on the flight at the last minute, and I’m now in Cairns without a bike to ride.

While I will do my very best to be there if I think I’m going to be able to handle the trip, there is a chance I may have to wimp out of this one.

Cheers,
Tom

Roads suggested from Frankston to Hampton parrk are fine ridden them a few times and alot of widening etc has taken place on cranbourne frankston road with bike lanes. Sth Gippsland also pretty good as has a nice shoulder and below shows a similar ride I did which was 75ks although I did it in reverse direction and came back on thompsons road which I would not suggest

I would suggest you do not need to change anything on that route but I know it well and can lead you around some other paths including shortcuts if needed if route does not take peoples fancy

Looking forward to ride

Sounds good Crog.. looks like we've found ourselves a guide!

Out of curiosity, what kind of average speeds do you guys generally ride at (on rides like this over 40km)?

Just trying to decide if I want to add on a few km’s by riding from home (if I drive, I know I'll buy a Macca's breakfast on the way home, and I really don't need it) :)

On a (somewhat) different note - what's the best LBS around our neck of the woods?
I got my bike from Ivanhoe but can't be bothered taking it back there for a service all the time (had my first one so the warranty's cool).. I've wandered into Goldcross a few times but it just feels like a Bunnings with bikes (and they staff are just as hard to find)..
Where do you guys go for the stuff you can't (or don't want to) get online?

Yep Crog, you da man. You know your way around the route. The lead is yours.
I'm curious about the pace as well. What average speed were you doing on that run???? Am I going to be in pain??
I guess so hey!

Guys

Happy to show you a few roads if need be but what is listed should be fine, maybe follow greens into hutton into rear of Mordialloc instead of springvale down to edithvale, Edithvale reoad has no shoulder and rides through wetlands so only a single lane from memory work it out on day

Figures for that ride from the Garmin

Distance 72.92km
Time 3.07
Average speed 24km (mind you I do not really stop it at lights etc) but around 25 to 28 is comfortable
Max speed 56.54 km

I am a bit of a clysdale so dont expect me to be pushing you guys, I am a bit concerned that I wont be able to keep up

The good thing about this route is that it's fairly flat...
I'm happy with an average speed around mid-high 20's, but we can just judge it as we go - make the rule now that we only ride as fast as the slowest rider...

Your on guys. Slowest rider is the mark. I like that. This way we are able to get fitter as a group. My goal is to gradually get fit enough to ride to the basin and up the 1-20 to Sassafras and back. Only with peek fitness though. However I am going to do the (round the bay in a day) ride this year. any one else doing that ride??

Yeah, I'm in for the 210km ATB... looking forward to that...

Also signed up for the Degani Kinglake ride (120km)... signed up in the <4.5hr group for that

Maybe once we've all ridden together a few times on easier routes we can do a 1:20 ride... I haven't done that yet but am definitely keen to test myself..

Well, I'm in for the 210k as well. City-Sorento-City (East side). Starting to train, hopefully hard enough. Yeah, that 1:20 is a biaatch!

Lots of pro looking riders on it at times. I want to be well prepared for that one.

the 210 well that is a different option sounds like I will be the slowest rider

Looking forward to ride

Guys did a reconance ride of the route proposed today

Distance 63.9km
Average speed 25.1km
Time 2:33

Including lights etc

Suggestions would be to reverse route because :

1. Only real Hills are on Cranbourne Frankstone Road so get them out way early and reverse route is likely more sever as fairly consistant uphill from Frankston to Langwarrin
2. Roadworks on Cranbourne Frankstone Road. By heading to Frankston first will avoid them as they are predominatly on the other side of road and impede

Else route is good, worse part of route is between Greens Road and McDonalds near the round about where no shoulder

Anyway my 2 bobs worth

Crog it looks good. We will reverse it. Then coming back greens rd turn right on kitchen rd get on to Abbots rd to south Gippy highway not far from the golden arches for end of round Latte.

I will make a good effort to go unless its raining cats and dogs that morning, never like a big ride in the wet - course is good, i work south Dandenong and commute to Mount Waverley so ride half the route a few times a week, easy and no stress.

Gents,

Potential late cancellation. Sons B'Day Party is same day.

I need to be at Ballam Park about 10:30 ~ 11:00 to get hold of BBq area and set up so pending which way you do the loop you are welcome to stop in for a drink and Snack as it is in the playground just near karingal.

I have a couple of options if I wish to join

1. If we went original route I can join you ands stop off at Ballan Park on way back. If we leave at 8:00 I suggest we will be there for 10:30 ~ 10:45

2. Leave earlier say 7:00 so I am back by 10 ~ 10:30 as I think it will only be about a 3 ~ 31/2 hour ride.

3. Ride tro Mordialloc with you and jump off at Edithvale as you return towards Frankston and shoot home

Let me know else I will take a rain check.

Crog. I agree. I prefer 7.00am its more my style to ride from early the morning
giving one the rest of the day free to do other things. You got my vote on that.

7am works for me (or at least it keeps me out of trouble with the wife)...

I'm hoping it doesn't take us 3-3/12 hours...
