Lance passes on riding the worlds
Postby im_no_pro » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:19 pm
Got a rug rat arriving around that time. Good call given the circumstance, but still a little disappointed I will not get to see him ride my home town.....

True. If he didnt ride the plan was to try and get him out in an ambassador style role. Whilst it would have been good, I certainly won't be losing sleep over it. Plenty of others I would prefer to see ride, just would have been nice to tell the kids one day that Lance came to town and I was there to see him.

If they moved the worlds to early August then you would get all the big guns turning up...as it is, it is usually the guys who rode a very strong Vuelta who do well at the Worlds.

With a flattish course, what interests do these GC riders have? They'll just get creamed by those sprinter boys.
Bianchi, Ridley, Tern, Montague and All things Apple

The Worlds will be better for his absence. There's too much of a circus that surrounds him and he hogs the media coverage.

Don't know that the pure sprinters will like it too much, its not as flat as many first thought.sogood wrote:With a flattish course, what interests do these GC riders have? They'll just get creamed by those sprinter boys.

Even on a flat course you would use different tactics for a one-day race than a stage of a grand tour. You put the hammer down early and don't ease up - there is no Mont Ventoux to save yourself for. That would neutralise the pure sprinters. It may still not suit GC riders - but you can whittle down the leading bunch over the course of the day.im_no_pro wrote:Don't know that the pure sprinters will like it too much, its not as flat as many first thought.sogood wrote:With a flattish course, what interests do these GC riders have? Totally agree. As much as I love Lance (travelled 5000km mainly to see him (AT) TdU'10), I hate to see the spotlight taken from the riders that deserve the attention on the day.biker jk wrote:The Worlds will be better for his absence. Can't wait for the Worlds!
