Winter Challenge

Postby mcdurdin » Thu Jul 01, 2010 5:17 pm

Well, just registered for winter challenge (first competitive ride I've entered). I'm doing the road cycle leg. Anyone else interested in riding the course sometime in the next couple of weeks (this weekend won't work for me) - once round together as a recon and then a tt run?

I am well up for it. I did a recon ride over the course last year. My race time was 10 mins quicker than my recon TT ride.
The hill on Scotts Road is a killer

Um could i get a lift of someone ?????

Could we make it another day if possible? My parents will be in town doing wedding pre stuff with me around luch time...i will check what time

Is any one else doing the Winter Challenge ?

@BarryTas, I will only be able to make the Saturday morning. May be able to offer you a lift -- are you comfortable with your bike sitting on a towbar rack? (I haven't had any real trouble with scratches when carrying bikes on it but do have to be careful lifting bikes on and off). I am in Kingston, would you be able to meet in Kingston?

Barry I have a general rule, 20km TT I can ride without a biddon. Especially in HBA where it's not overly hot. Over 20ks I think a bidon is essential, or if the temperature is above 12-15deg. If you do use a bidon, limit the water in it, reduce the dead weight. Realistically you will only have 1 drink out of it so no need for a full bottle. Also instead of a bidon, what about a GU instead. Secondly, if your in a TT why have a standard bidon and cage, buy a TT specific bidon and cage, (I don't have one of these yet!)

cheers Rob,

I have a little biddon for long races and a drink after the hill is good, but still would prefer not to take one

Just been looking for a course map for this event, can anyone help me out?

I might be interested in the mtb leg, if its a very laid back kind of team

Im going to ask around the bunch on the next Ken self ride, to see who is doing what but thought I'd put the feelers out here as well.

I might be able to make the road ride, to be honest it will depend on the weather  Might even just bring the mtb and do a lap instead, if all the course is open and I can get a map or directions. I know the area a bit, I grew up down that way.

Cheers
Daniel.

@BarryTas let's plan to meet near the traffic lights outside Kingston Hotel say 8:20 or so? Should give us enough time to get down to Franklin.
