Performer Agenda or perhaps low racer

Postby fthills » Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:05 pm

Would anyone in Sydney or thereabouts be good enough to allow me a test ride on a performer agenda?
I have two recumbents ,bought sight unseen , but am still looking for that good fit . Not going to buy without trying first this time.
Thanks

I can come to Canberra. Poit do you know if the owners attend the Saturday
Stromlo once a month races ?

Many congratulations on your around OZ record . Will you be holding a lecture/presentation
describing your achievement ? I can't help but feel that an account of what you did should be
formally recorded somehow, It is a truly astonishing feat.

We could arrange for a lowracer and a couple of other Performers (Agenda, dual 559, FWD) to be test ridden.
After August though.
- Alex (Ness Bikes) away MTBing in Mongolia
- My son's new Performer low racer might be built up by then
- It might be warmer.

Thanks Poit,

I'll keep an eye on this board for the event.

I'll bring my Metaphysic so people can try it.

Thanks Poit,

I'm in Mongolia most of August - I should be back for the racing at at the end of August (race dates posted elsewhere on list) or Sept. Should be a couple of low racer models, FWDs or high racers to try. Let me know when your coming and we can make sure there are some to try.

A short jaunt around the deserts and mountains of Mongolia. Did consider taking a `bent but decided to stick with convention due to too many unknowns in terms of riding surfaces.

Is there something in the Canberran atmosphere that is responsible for spawning record setting , high achieving and prolific cyclists of late ?

It's the cold weather.

Canberra Mob member< Duncan and his mate Scott head off tomorrow to Cairns to start one of his "installments" of his around Oz tapestry.
Over past 10 years or so he has gradually been filling in the gaps with different rides both supported and by himself.
Duncan is riding a lowracer Lizard and Scott is on Duncan's newish Performer Dual 559 Agenda bent.
Dunc and Scott ride their bents as far as Mount Isa then Scott flies home.
Duncan then completes a stage from Cairns South to Tweed Heads.
Sounds simple doesn't it?
Nope, there's a car involved in all this so in reality Duncan rides the stage twice - once out and once back to get the car.
I can't get my head round this, but it works for him....

Might snow here this weekend - woohoo.

Had a good afternoon with son M@ doing a shakedown on his new Performer low racer.
It's one of the 559 x 406 disc frames and I have set it up with bigger wheels in 650c x 451.
Rolls along very nicely and looks great in white and black theme.
Even with M@ being 6'3" or so the stem is way too long.
Even the trimmed version is too close to my nose.
Ended up trimming another 50mm off (total now 150mm) the bottom of stem and running full length cable outers - didn't like the guitar look of the exposed inners on stem anyhow.
Soon there will be a Carbon seat which should drop about 1kg off total weight (13.3kg).

Alex (Ness) has one of the new Performer lowracers with the 700c rear wheel and 451 front and carbon fork, so that will be interesting to see.

Somehow I have ended up with Portland Paul's Performer FWD in my shed reedy for sale if anyone is interested. See http://www.ozhpv.org.au/forsale/forsale.html if interested. I really need the room for my next project/s/s/s/s/s

Can the Front wheel drive frame be converted to a rear wheel drive ?

You can do anything mate.
Question is why?
Probably the separable frame feature.
Why not ask Performer to make a custom RWD with the separating feature?
The main frame tube is the same in any case.

Just following up with a picture of the lowracer.
Shorter wheelbase than the VK2 behind. Seat is more laid back.
Note these are the bars shortened by about 150mm.
Also dropped chain not "normal" but makes things very smooth.
