Walnut1, what an appropriate name for a post of this nature.
Arkle & Walnut1, thanks, the better informed we are the less chance of a sticky end.
This cancer killed my father, it was extemely unpleasant. Most die with, not of prostate cancer.
Detection & treatment are continiously improving for this and other cancers.

Arkle, the free to total ratio is indeed done a lot, particularly for total PSAs from 2 - 10, but the problem is that the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy aren't that high for it to make that much difference in my decision making process. Possibly the more valuable trend is what is called the PSA velocity, the rate of change in total PSA over time .
A jump of 1 - 2 ng / ml of PSA in one year is enough ( even in a normal range) to warrant close investigation by your friendly neighbourhood urologist. Don't neglect the rectal glove exam either, it can still find many cancers even with a normal PSA ! (Some high grade cancers paradoxically don't make much PSA !!)

I have just returned to the bike after 3 months and surgery. I started very quietly and have only had general fitness problems so far, 12 weeks without strenuous exercise will do that I suppose. Best advice is to do what your uroligist / GP advise.

great news, though my gp suggests that early morning sex is associated with increased risk of heart attackarkle wrote: ... Also, those males who ejaculate at least 5 times per week reduce their likelihood of developing cancer of the prostate by 30%
are you insane writing this? What if my wifes sees this - i thought i was on a winner for a moment[/quote]arkle wrote:Ejaculation does not have to be via coitis
seriously though, after reading this thread i did indeed drop into the GP for the first time in a decade for a checkup and 40k service. blood results are in the mail, but it turns out he thinks my blood pressure is higher then it should be. I assumed since i now exercise regularly, eat better etc etc i would be a picture of perfect health. If yohavent yet, go get a check up.

dinosauras, good that you're back in the saddle, I know how long 3 months is. I'm just a week away from getting back no the bike if I get the OK from the specialist. No good wasting all that recovery time by rushing in.
