Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie Project

Postby surfin' addiction » Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:52 pm

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I have been cycling for a while and decided on building a fixie a few months back to try and help work on a few things with my technique and maybe get into some track riding. I have been looking through the thread 'post your fixie pics' and there is some fantastic looking whips on there with some great looking paint work, but not may people have commented on where they've been getting them done and all my key word searches have been pretty fruitless.

My question is, can someone recommend a good painter or powder coater around Melbourne. I have a totally bare frame that is almost ready to go. I am trying to do things relatively cheap, but I don't mind spending a little bit to get a good job done.

Let me know.

Thanks Womble. I had considered doing it myself, but it needs to be sandblasted and maybe some surface finish work done. So I figured taking it to a one stop shop to be sandblasted and powder coated would do the job. That and the fat that last time I tried my hand at painting it didn't surn out so well. I'll be keen to see some pictures of your DIY job though.

I'm getting a lot of views but no real answers to my question. What's up with that?

First of all, what do you want, a good job, or a powdercoat ??

For me those are two different things.
I can not help you with powdercoat, i'm sure others can, but if you are intereted in a good paint job , i can help.
I wil send you a pm.

If yer happy with powder, talk to Jon at Gripsport, he'll see you right. Blast and powder for good money.

Your bike looks nice, but for $200 i could have done it for you...
Altough it takes away the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

You just beat me to it...
I was thinking the same thing...

Only downside would be that the delivery costs would add to the total costs...

Unfortunately some of us need to do things for our wives before we do things for our bikes. Spending money on bikes is a touchy subject this week :?

Perhaps if you actually touched your wife and stopped fondling the bike?

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I am pretty sure I know where I'll be taking the frame now. I'll be sure to post up pictures as the project progresses.
