Not to hijack the thread but good luck on your project,, start a new thread and talk us through what you are going to do with the bike. It appears not much is needed but keep us in the loop
Time for an update :
The only thing now to be sorted is the wheels. I found out that the 105 Calipers that I giot with a set of Aero levers have a significantly longer reach than the calipers that came with the bike (old ones fitted), so will quickly try the 105 Calipers with my current 700C rims from the LeMond to see if I really lucked in for a change. And now for some pics with the frame fitted with some accoutriments ;

Time for a quick update.
Bugger me if the frame still looks pretty much the same as it has for a while Richard has finished the wheel relacing (per the "I built a wheel" thread), so I just have to get of my fat proverbial and head on up to his place and pick it up. Still waiting for the tyres though, as the set I bid on eBay, I have been outbid by some pratt, and this guy only lists one set at a time, so being a tighty, I need to wait, but patience may get the better of me and I'll try something else. Crog has kindly donated the SR quill stem which is 30mm longer than what came with the bike, and after dragging out the measurement/fitting chart from when I was setup on the LeMond, should be just right. Have purchased the chain from BigW ($9.42), and a Bidon Cage ($6.42), the rolls of handlebar tape are ready to go, and the new brake cables are ready to be installed once I fit the new stem. Then it will be finally time to ride .....
Check the length of that chain mate. I don't know what brand Big W sell but at least one brand BMX chain is too short (guess how I know this one
Richard I had a good bike ... so I fixed it
Well, the wheels are now back in my possession
The rear is now wearing an 18T cog (on loan from Richard) and a 28C Bontrager Racelite tyre. Picked up the rims from Richard last night, and couldn't help myself but to mount the tyre on the rear rim and fit it to the frame Fits beyooodifull, and the 105 brake calipers have reach to spare. Ended up getting 28C Bontrager Race Lite tyres (wire bead) as the Maxxis Detonators would take too long to get, and at $54 for the pair, it was close enough for me. Might even get it going this weekend ...... More pics and data to come....
Well progress was made on Friday night, with all of the cables fitted, brakes done, chain tensioned, handlebars wrapped.
Even had a quick chnace to have a qwuick ride before it got too dark. Got about 2m, and proved that chain joining linls don't work as a single sided item ..... Oh well, new chain purchased the next morning for another $9.42 from BigW, and will get it going this week. More piccies to come. Even the non bike interested wife said " The white bike looks good "
Are you saying you tried to ride the thing with only half a joining link fitted?
And people think I'm nuts. It wasn't the right sort of weather to go trying out new stuff - more 'comfy old bike' weather than 'rash new hotrod'. Be warned, your first fixed ride is going to leave you knackered, though with your strength, you'll have to carefully file away the feelings because you probably won't feel them again. Bad luck about the missus spotting it, she'll want one of her own now Richard I had a good bike ... so I fixed it
Well, it finally is complete and has been test ridden !!!
Richard has built a wheel that someone has now actually used !!! Here is a teaser pic
More in this thread , now that he is officially a fixed gear bike .....
Actually, it's more along the lines of 'what have I got myself into' Richard I had a good bike ... so I fixed it
Thanks. Even the missus commented on it and she is not a bike fan at all. I went from a clunky heavy solid MTB, to an Aluminium modern raod bike, and have now added the fixie, the Clunky heavy solid MTB (back again from a holiday at Richards) and a Cinelli waiting to be assembled for the first time in it's life. Have to make sure the smart pills are on board when I ride this thing
