I'm racing in my first ever triathlon this weekend (Robina, QLD) - in fact - my first ever bike related race.
There's all the obvious things - helmet on first, gear all in order of putting it on, etc, and the rules about drafting etc, but does anyone any other advice for a triathlon newbie virgin?

Let's see. Arm chair. Remote control. Beer. Chocolate cake. Son on standby to collect more supplies. That's about all you need to ENJOY a triathlon
Have fun mate. Don't kill yourself. It's better to get to the end and realise you could have gone faster than not to reach the end at all.

At a general level, don't forget to get yourself well hydrated and carbo loaded the night before. Also watch out for the temperature on the day. For a long and hot TT course, make sure you have at least one bottle of plain water just to douch your head and body. So don't try to save weight there as it will be the difference b/n blowing up and time gains.uncle arthur wrote:There's all the obvious things - helmet on first, gear all in order of putting it on, etc, and the rules about drafting etc, but does anyone any other advice for a triathlon newbie virgin?

mr888 is the expert on triathlons.
Being you first one, my advice is to go out and enjoy it and you will learn heaps in the process.
And keep hydrated.

If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Good luck in the Triathlon. I guy pulled up alongside me today at the Penrith Regatta center, telling me he had a triathlon on this weekend. We were probably averaging over 35km/hr riding, he was chatting away and I wasnt talking so much I told him I came down to ride 70km, he said he was off to do 150km.
