MBTC Dandenong Ranges MTB Ride, now on Sat. Sept 25

Postby kukamunga » Fri Aug 27, 2010 3:31 pm

Due to the inclement weather on the 4th, this ride has been rescheduled to.....

MBTC members and visitors alike are welcome to

Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club
Dandenong Ranges Mountain Bike Ride
Saturday September 25, 2010, Grand Final Day
Ride leader: Tony 'kukamunga'

Belgrave to Bayswater via Sherbrooke Forest, Olinda Arboretum, Kalorama Park, Doongalla Forest and Dandenong Creek

40 kms - 60% unsealed roads and tracks; 20% singletrack (some optional); 10% bike path; 10% bitumen – hard, hilly and scenic. The hardest and steepest climb of the day is very early in the ride – a tough test before some single track and slightly gentler gradients. Good fitness and off-road skills are required

A pre 10.30 start in Belgrave for coffee, finishing at Bayswater around 3:30 pm. Get there by train, or car/train combo. PM me for more detailed train and coffee / start times

BYO off-roadworthy mountain bike with knobby tyres and wide-range gears. Basic tools, spare tube, water bottle and snack food also required. Lunch available at Kalorama – bring cash. Be prepared for cool or wet weather

For more details, please PM me

Bugger... MTB should arrive by Saturday, but couldn't find off-road skills on ebay to go with it.

Kukamunga, how often are these run?

I try to run an MBTC MTB ride every couple of months. Check their bi-monthly calendar for other rides

Any chance you'll be running some beginner intro style rides (for those not quite so fit)???

No, not really, though if I personally get any less fitter and ride off-road any less, I might have to..... :|

What about something for the faint hearted and the weak? I mean me... or can I just rock up with my gnarley (e or without e?) skillzzzz/bike?

By no way is this ride classified as 'extreme' in technical ability - I could almost classify it as a MTB 'tour' of the Dandenongs  There are still steep hills to climb (hence good fitness), and if any precipitation falls on or just before the day, some of the steeper or single-track (some optional) sections could be a bit slippery - hence knobby tyres only

Not for absolute MTB newbies.....
