Ear "Chill Blains" ???
Postby brettjames » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:27 pm
So every Winter I seem to develop these little whiteish lumps on the ridges of my ears (both). Sometimes IF I piss them off enough, they can ooze some not so sexy puss/serum. Doctor says (after a 3.5 second inspection) "you have chillblains".
Makes sense given I ride a little in the fricking cold weather.
Doctor say "Ear muffs".....I say "Bollocks, I'm not looking like an eskimoe whilst I ride."
Does anyone here have similar issues, symptoms, and IF so, do you just put up with it like my stubborn self, or take precautions ?
Do tell......

I have a similar problem. I get massive migraines from cold ears so I wear one of these under my helmet. Solves the problem.
cheers

Unlike alot of the humpa lump coffee cafe cyclists, I work HARD when I'm out on the tarmac, and keeping the head cool helps performance. NOTHING worse, or more dangerous than a HOT head, so something that keeps the flow of air going but protects my radars from the cold is what I'm after.
No pain really associated, just an Ear Sore, Eye sore

I'm also trying to find out if anyone else out there has a similar issue, just to make sure my doctor isn't just making assumptions, otherwise a second opinion maybe in order. People have said gout (tophi), cold blisters, dehydration, frost bite, skin cancer ?????
Figure there is someone out there with similar circumstances.

It wont be frostbite, you'd certainly know about that (although if you keep up the cold weather work without protection...). Skin cancer isnt generally white and pusy. I can't see how dehydration would come into the equation. Cold blisters? what are they?

That would be why he went to doctorin' skool for a year or so. Get a beanie or a headband. or you could get a lot of us talking about you because that is supposed to make your ears burn.
