The race course for the World Road Cycling Championships at Geelong is under threat from the floodwaters on the Barwon River today. One moth to go - will they have to rebuild the bridge? But catch the cr@p in the usual comments at the end Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: World Champs race course at riskas Davo said in the reader comments, the problem is that the race will not properly showcase geelong. they should change the rules to have bogans in their modified toranas doing laps of the course, buzzing the riders and yelling abuse at them. to keep it a level playing field, they could train the bogans to yell abuse in native tongues of the riders
Re: World Champs race course at riskoh my. How narrow-minded are some of those bogans in Geelong?

Re: World Champs race course at riskmeh, its not like they don't close enough roads for motorsports in australia already.
There are at least 3 V8 meetings that take place on public roads, there is F1, and rallying in australia has to run pretty much every event right down to club level on public roads.

Yeah, it's just north of Fairlane, isn't it? Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: World Champs race course at riskDon't you people get it?!
Foreigners are coming to Geelong and bringing something that they don't understand. That's not good! If they take Geelong, Australia will fall! Grumps You are very tedious, and grumpy. Stay at home and give advice from your armchair.

Re: World Champs race course at riskDont forget Geelong has its annual Speed Trials which closes off the forshore so hot cars can do screaming laps all day.
Re: World Champs race course at riskit will take most of the bogans in geelong a week to stagger home from the MCG after their team loses the GF... wouldnt be too concerned about them, local bogans will be such a minority that weekend anyway.
if i get killed while out on my bike i dont want a 'memorial ride' by random punters i have never met.
Re: World Champs race course at riskAlex:
they are not going to make it to the GF after Fremantle thumps them this Friday
Re: World Champs race course at risk

Re: World Champs race course at riskThis is why it was advertised as Melbourne 2010

Re: World Champs race course at riskThose bogans on the Geelong Advertiser reader responses are precious aren't they? What a bunch of whinging ninnies.

Re: World Champs race course at riskThem lycra shtickbundles jusht need to fit shome doof doof shtereos to their boikes an' they'll be fooly shikk. Maaaaaaate.
Now I know why I've never ridden around GLG ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

No more narrow minded than bogans in any other city...
You havent been to geelong for a while have you...
Re: World Champs race course at risk
Yeah realised not long after I posted it that they are no longer on. Worst still, when I really thought about it I can recall the old man saying he couldnt go anymore, and that was a good 10 years ago. My bad.
Re: World Champs race course at risk
Are you a little sooky that we are mocking Geelong? We could mock tassie
Re: World Champs race course at riskAustralia has many stunningly scenic places worthy of a world champion bike race,
these suburbs of Geelong must be truly awesome ![]()
Re: World Champs race course at riskAnd the point made, from my link back to the original Geelong Worlds post...
Conflicting Situation. As stated.
So why stuff around with a possible flooded course? Geelong may end up looking pretty foolish. And from the competitors point of view, you would expect the race couse to be fixed, if only to know what you are up against (as a rider), and make it an even playing field for All Teams. Could reflect badly on Australia, if it all comes apart at the seams. Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
