Perth rides lately

Postby damonik » Fri Sep 17, 2010 11:58 am

I bet I'm not the only one that has noticed that spring is most definitely upon us. It seems like a distant memory but it was surely less than 2 weeks ago where we were blessed with almost no wind and glorious riding conditions.

After a spectacularly good winter for riding I'm not complaining, but the morning easterly and the afternoon seabreeze are already starting to annoy me, bring on next autumn already! :D

On the plus side, the cycling tan is already coming along nicely and I'm sure all that hard work into the afternoon seabreeze down the Kwinana freeway will pay off.

On the plus side it's far more comfortable temperature wise leaving for work in the morning.

Comfy temperatures but annoying wind! I am not sure it's an ideal time for 'cycle instead' hahah. I am enjoying the longer daylight hours too and getting home before the streetlights are on.

I froze my @rse off this morning. It looked warm out so I didn't wear my winter woolies. I was shivering by the 1/4 mark. I am very lucky though to have lovely hot showers at work. Mmmm.... warm shower

Yes, they installed showers at my workplace shortly after I started riding to work. Go figure, I made scents.

Ummm...yesterday I had a SS jersey, LS jersey and gillet, then knicks and knee warmers. My feet were cold. It's the coldest weather I will ride in.

I'm sure I'll lose my road cyclists license for this, but yesterday I had a great ride home south down the freeway, tucked in behind a nice bloke on a recumbent bike (One of those tall ones that is nearly as tall as a normal road bike).

I've got no excuses apart from having a few beers before leaving work and feeling lazy (besides, he was going really fast!!:P) He had a BTA shirt on so perhaps he is a forum member here.

If so, thanks for the lift!

That Easterly wind this morning (Sunday)...

I think I was averaging between 15-20km/h heading East... then when I swung around towards the coast I was averaging 30-50km/h, without much pedalling .

I could leave work at anytime, but I'm normally home by 4.40. If someone organises a meeting for me, though, I might be passing through at that time ...

Better not wait for me though. :)

Graeme

Damn, I'll stop lurking on the top of the Narrows looking for a convenient draft then

Went around the bridges again this morning, killer easterly

yep easterly winds are upon us again.

Did a 135km ride on Sunday from South perth out to Campersic road (Brigadoon) and going into the wind all the way was hard work but going back was great. Tacked on a loop round the river and the second half into the wind from Freo to South perth definately finished me off for the day.

Just how far are you riding each day zues? I thought you could only pick them up in the tropics.
