Imanol Erviti Ollo of Spain has won stage 10 of the Vuelta a España
while compatriot Joaquín Rodríguez has taken the overall lead.
The Katusha’s Team-member Rodriguez, celebrated the race
entering his native Catalonia by taking the race leader’s red jersey.

Andy Schleck confirmed the news to Cyclingnews, releasing a statement while on his way home:

"I acknowledge that I have broken a rule on the team by going out for a drink after dinner
and for that reason Bjarne has decided to send myself and Stuart O’Grady home.

Teams are allowed to have drinks (alcohol) with their dinner.

Igor Antón (Euskaltel-Euskadi) surged back into the overall lead in Wednesday’s climbing stage
into Andorra just a day after losing it on time bonuses.

2010 Vuelta a Espana, stage 11: Igor Anton fights his way to a stage win and back into the lead.
This time, the Basque climber left no doubt that he could be the man to beat as the Vuelta a España,
taking his second stage victory and recapturing the lead with an impressive showing up the final ramps
of the 208.4km 11th stage in the Vuelta’s first mountaintop finish.

Antón gapped overnight leader Joaquim Rodríguez (Katusha) with 3km to go in the final,
10km climb to the Valnord/Pal summit and then edged past dogged veteran
Ezequiel Mosquera (Xacobeo-Galicia) to win.
Antón won three seconds ahead of Mosquera and took a 45-second lead on Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) in the overall.

Yes, interesting, and a couple of stage wins, mostly from the efforts of Mattew Goss (which Cav acknowledges)
and the realisation, that "one sprint wonders" at the end of stages, may not cut it The Vuelta (as Le Tour) he will
be required to contest Intermediate Sprints, to stay in the Green, and be wearing it in Madrid.

Yeah saw it last night. On the slow mo replay you can see him doing a major flip. Wasn't there something in the TdF re the boys in orange crashing a lot .....

The amount of road rash that he had was amazing. There was not much left of anything .... Thanksfully Ok in the scheme of things and his team mate is OK.

Aint Mr Roche in fine form Doing well indeed.

The stage finish that Barredo won was pretty good too !!

A pretty sad finish to the Vuelta for Igor Anton forced to withdraw near Peña Cabarga,
leading so well, and looking good for Madrid.
No excuses, though, in his rundown after the stage, and a great Champion.
"He might need surgery in his elbow"

Initially it appeared that Anton’s fall might have been due to his touching the wheel
of Euskaltel-Euskadi colleague Egoi Martinez, who also crashed heavily and was taken away
in an ambulance with a suspected broken collarbone, but the 27-year-old admitted afterwards, “I crashed alone.”

He continued: “I thought I had hit a hole or an obstacle, my hands went off the handlebars.
I stood up, I saw blood all over the place but I didn’t know where I was or what was going on.
Instinctively I tried to go back on my bike and I realised my right elbow couldn’t bend.
Our team doctor came straight away. He touched my arm and said: forget about it, it’s broken.”

Anton, who rather than burying his head in his hands as he sat in the team car minutes after his crash
instead managed to smile and give a thumbs-up to the TV cameras, perhaps a signal to his family and fans
that all things considered he wasn't too badly hurt, added:
“I’ll keep from these fourteen days at the Vuelta the memory of my happiness, I’ve lived a dream.”

It is therefore one of the most important stages of the whole Vuelta of 2010.

Woot! My friend from my local village in Slovakia, Peter Vetlis, won the TT Stage 17. I won't bore you with all the fanboi photos but I'm stoked!
He had a bit of extra luck with the wind change but it was a fair win, specially considering his good performance in the race so far.

Manios, headlines are "...Velits in dreamland..." and a great boost to him.

Velits, meanwhile, whose twin brother Martin is also riding for HTC-Columbia in the race,
could hardly believe his victory afterwards: “This is my first time trial victory,” he revealed.

“It’s unbelievable that it happens at the Tour of Spain. I can’t describe it.
To beat Cancellara who is the absolute top TT rider makes it even more of a surprise.
On the way out, I didn’t give 100% but on the way back, I put the hammer down.
I saw Danielson in front of me. He was coming closer and closer. It was such a big motivation.”

The first shot is a few weeks from the start. It does not even look like the same person.

But seriously. I know what you are getting at though don't think these photos are easy to compare - different lighting and body position / posture - you could argue that the strong (outdoor) sunlight simply brings too much contrast whereas in the indoor shot - the light is very dispersed with fewer shadows.

Yes, maybe not the best, specially considering he's quite thin already, but riding with him a few weeks before the race and seeing all the shots after he looks like he's lost a hell of a lot of weight.
