2010 Worlds in GeelongRe: 2010 Worlds in GeelongHope so...from watching the racing all week the crowds have been very sparse...I know tomorrow is the main event but still.
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongIs it just me, or does the winner of yesterdays womens race look her/his goolies haven't dropped yet?
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongHmm, where on earth do go when you take a natural break on the West Gate Bridge?!!
Actually, maybe I don't wanna know...
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
Did you see the pics of her thighs? No wonder she won
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongWhoa that was a close one. Wonder what would've happened we had gotten a lap situation... and wonder what happens if there is perchance some sorta stack in one of the climbs and the break catches the resultant stragglers... ?
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
You mean, there is doubt on the gender of the winner of the women's race? Weekdays: "Bliss" (Trek Madone 5.2 2012) | Weekends: "Cadel" (self built) | Casual: "Kitty" (Giant Cypress LDS 2009)
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongIndeed.
You just had to know that when the bunch charged down the right hand side that if Thor was still in the mix, he was in the perfect spot for the sprint, and sure enough. What an effort by Cadel though. Almost, but not quite. And Allan Davis, where did he come from... Amazing Championships all round. Great course, great field, great finishes. Love the fact too that the radios were out, and the tactics are decided on road. =)
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongSo happy for Thor, my fav non Aussie rider. Well done Allan Davis.

Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongCadel bows out, but a great performance and was still in it with a couple of kms to go.
Interesting Finish, hard uphill, into the wind, sprint. Thor HUSHOVD, showed he was the greatest sprinter on the day, won it quite comfortably, and now the World Champion. Aussie Allan Davis, a good third, and the Bronze medal. (but a lesson for him, and others, never sit up until after the line, nearly lost it-officials needing a photo Thor spoke well, and will be a worthy Champion, and a great boost for his Country. Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
Agree, and Cervelo. Can I put some rainbow stripes on my bike now?
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
Of course but only if you lend it to a world champion
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelongwell, the crowds certainly turned up today. there must have been over 100k fans on the course.
what a race by cadel and al davis, cadel gave it heaps. i thought gilbert would get it, but credit to thor - those finishes are made for him.
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
Phil and Paul were saying the official crowd today was put at 150,000.
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelonggreat day, great race, had a feeling big thor would be a good show, very simular to a stage he won at the tour this year after a gruelling day.
Cadel rode like a champ, I was willing him on that hard!!
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelongi didn't see everything as i was on the course, but the bits i saw on the screen made me wonder whether cadel worked too hard, honouring the rainbow jersey (even if he'd already taken it off). it looked as though he did most of the responding on the last lap to gilbert.
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
I think he played it very well. I felt he did initiate alot of the resposes but I other guys always went with him and I thought it was able to rotate off the front felatively soon after the initial response...there were a couple of times when I thought that he was going to chase with the other guys just following but every time I thought he was going to do too much work we was able to rotate off and the response continued... Awesome race!! Cadel did us proud. Great result for Davis and Im glad a race like that was won by Thor if it wasnt going to be an aussie. Sam
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelongfantastic day out just got home after a trip to fed square then to the circuit, couldn't get any better weather than what we had, well done Thor.
Great rides by Evans + Davis you did us proud! Only gripe about the event... in future if they hold such events, they need to set up radio stations/commentary around the course not just in parks, was left wondering most of the day who was where.... Quite a few pedestrian issues and support car crashes, one almost understeered off course into the barriers the start of the queens park climb, surely did surprise the spectators Anyway hopefully we can have some more events like this to come, well worth it, now where's my mountain goat gone Oh, will the race be replayed on tv tonight/tomorrow, love to catch up on other events that happen during the course of the day?
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelong
It would appear that (thanks to the Commonwealth Games I presume) the Mens Elite Road Race is the only one of the week not to get a repeat showing. It's a bit warmer here than Scotland isn't it!
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongJust to ride that distance & the course, let alone race it!! well done Cadel & Davis!!
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongJust got back to the future in-laws place in Bendigo. Had a great day in Geelong and the riders were amazing. The way they powered up the climbs was inspiring and the sheer speed awesome. The last lap i was in the Cycling Aus/AIS tent and every one was cheering at every move Cadel & Allan made. Very exciting stuff. When i walked that long straight late in the race i knew the headwind would be a killer for any breakaways and that is exactly what decided it. Happy with Thor winning
+1 one to Skoda having some panel beating to do. Saw a few banged up rear ends and heard from some spectators one car floored it over some bumps and half the bikes on the roof fell off It was a great atmosphere. Only gripe was with some ppl been very inconsiderate in the park (standing in-front of ppl sitting down trying to watch the tv) and a few bike riders who clearly were not the best bike handlers in the world yet persisted to try ride through crowds clipped in and been right tools about it! Also a major need for the Lycra police to do patrols Current Ride: Giant 2010 TCR Advanced 1
Re: 2010 Worlds in Geelongglad its over, those days where really long
Re: 2010 Worlds in GeelongAwesome few days down in Geelong - freezing cold start then crazy hot sun today. We have around 1000 pics of the U23's, womens and mens elite to upload, i guess Rob will do that when he arrives back home.
The course was great - never thought Geelong was so hilly but i do now after going up and down the hills for some good shots all day. Great to see the worlds best riders here Don't mistake lack of talent for genius
