Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie ProjectOne last post finishing our little hijack of your post...
@yehu- What do you mean by spacers? Are they washers that go in between the cog and the hub?
Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie Project
Nah, bro. I've only got the one. I am bike sitting another at the moment though. -Josh-

WOT??? And end the time honoured BNA tradition of thread drift? Not on my watch pal! ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie Project
Oh yeah, I forgot that one is in the photo. That's not mine, I am bike sitting for a mate that has gone O.S. for a few months and had no where to store his bike. Only the green fixie and black flat bar roadie are mine.
Yeah it's good man. I had been riding the black fixie I just referred to while I was building mine and have found that mine is a bit different to ride. My gear inches are a bit higher (75.6 vs. 67.2 I think) and I bought shorter cranks so as not to smack the ground a lot and I find that mine is a bit harder to skid, but it's got a lot more go in it. A bit harder on the hills too. I just put the front brake and bar tape on last night so I went for a ride with a mate. It's nice to have it 100% finished now. I will put photos up soon. No name yet, I have too many things (i.e. surfboards, snowboards, bikes guitars and cars) to name them all. I am feeling a bit bad for my roadie though, it's getting a bit neglected. If it's another nice day tomorrow I'll get out for a good ride down to Port Phillip Bay on the fixie though I think. -Josh-

Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie ProjectLooking very nice, especially for a Kmart bike! Great work. And big props to damhooligan too, he did a mint job with that frame, looks flawless. You should come to Perth so you can do my project frame. I do wonder though, does anyone bother with surface protectors with these bikes? I know it's a fixie and so chain slap or cable rub isn't really an issue, but it couldn't hurt to get some clear protective coverings on areas that will get knocked around a bit. As I am planning to keep my project bike an original 10-speed and then convert it at a later date, do you think it's worth buying a pack of protective patches for the bike if I am going to get the frame powdercoated? Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie ProjectLong time since I have been on here..
I didn't worry about frame protection or anything. Scratches, nick, and rubs add character in my opinion. This bike has it's fair share of scratches now and the cranks are far from flawlessly white now. But it's meant to be ridden so I don't mind. -Josh-

Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie ProjectAll good you have the pictures to prove it was once nice and neat. Did you end up taping the bars?

Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie Project
Yeah, I taped the bars in white carbon look tape and fitted a front brake too. Gee, I thought I'd put pictures up since then. Maybe I better put up some more. -Josh-

you know your a cyclist when you bike sit instead of house sitting.
Re: Painting/Powder Coating a Fixie Project
Ha ha, I quite like that quote. I actually had all his furniture and stuff too, but I was riding his bike for a bit while he was gone. Was good to try someone else's gear out. -Josh-
