In Adelaide Magistrates Court, an elite cyclist pleads not guilty to driving charges over a hit run accident. (ABC News: Gary Rivett)

An elite cyclist accused of a drunken hit-run road crash that left another cyclist in a coma has pleaded not guilty to several driving charges in an Adelaide court.

In February, cyclist Matthew Rex was hit by a car on Main South Road at Normanville.

He suffered serious injuries from which he is still recovering.

Rex's friend and cycling competitor Chris Jongewaard was arrested and charged with driving offences.

Jongewaard has denied the charges in Adelaide Magistrates Court.

He has refused to comment as he left the court, but his lawyer says Jongewaard will be contesting the charges in the District Court in January.
