My 36" Fixie, riding MTB Singletrack

Postby unplannedismounts » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:05 pm

Hiya All,

Here's my 36" fixie in action, riding rollercoaster MTB singletrack. Video footage shot 100% on GoPro HD, over several days in the forests around Castlemaine, Victoria Australia. Some screencaps from the video below. Toggle to HD for max joy.

I spent many years MTB'ing but too much abuse lead to back surgery about 5 year sago. Have been getting mojo going again on the uni, GREAT for lower back, core strength and lots of fun. Hoping to get back into MTB soon. Anyways, I had some good laughs making the video, hope you enjoy it too.

Thanks!

We have a guy on a muni (mountain unicycle) who laps manly dam in just over 51 minutes. That's only 7 minutes slower than my PB

Absolutely amazing. :D

Yeah sometimes uni's can be surprisingly quick, but unlike a bike a lot depends on matching the uni wheel size and crank length to the terrain... which is partly why most people into uni have 3 or 4 size wheels on average (20-24-26-29-36) plus a range of crank lengths they are always fiddling around with (~100mm - 165mm).

What is great about the 36" wheel (and geared uni's) off road is that you can experience the good fun sensations of speed you get on a bike but all the time knowing you could be eating the dirt at any moment... so it's a unique sort of buzz I guess
