SEQ Cycle plan

Postby beauyboy » Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:28 pm

The South East Queensland Cycle plan 2007 has finally been released. This Plan sets out the routes of key importance for SEQ for the next 20 years. What is even more important is the fact that the state Government is still sticking to its target of 7% of all trip by bike by 2011. (you gotta love a cyclist as premier)

7% is a big figure, however I think that Perth currently has 5%, so it's achievable.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

The only really disappointing thing is that Brisbane City has a target that is 6% by 2026, but then again we have a tunnel crased libreal lord mayor :(

You mean as in train tunnels?

Yes I am positive but then that comes down to youth.

Yes Gower is right atm Brisbane has a road crazed Liberal Mayor whos only focus when it comes to transportation is Road! Now if he was rail crazed i would like the Bars###d.

Now Gower it comes down to a simple question have you read the plan?

SEQ Cycle Plan

Postby ditompkin » Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:08 pm

Who ever drew up those plans has no idea what a key is for. If I look at the Peregian Beach to Sunshine Coast Airport section, it shows "existing" coastal sections which don't exist, proposed primary routes which are sort of actual routes at the moment and proposed coastal sections which already exist, very confusing. Anyone know how to get hold of maps that show real cycle paths off the road, I hate the thought of towing my 2 kids behind me along David Low way only for the cycle lane to go from 1 meter wide to 20cm wide while a truck/bus is hurtling by.

ditompkin, I agree and ad to that, the DAvid Low is getting "street-scaped" at Coolum and Marcoola which involves the cycle section of the road simply dissapearing at each skinny round about that busses and trucks struggle to negotiate even when there is no cyclist added to the mix. They took an excellent wide road, good for roadies but not so good for kiddies, and turned it into an obstacle course.
