I think I might do this one instead of the Coot-tha challenge next year. Who else is going to make the trip out to Ippy?

Had a look at the profiles but can't be any tougher than the 160km Rainbow Ride I just completed. Some said the hills just keep on rolling up and down.

Will they have a 160km option this year? I did an "extended" 100k in 2009 (rode back to Brisbane after the ride) and it was a very nice ride, not particularly hilly, very nice scenery. Doing an "extended" 160k would be an attractive option...

If you ride back to Bris via Mt Crosby it is pretty hilly and adds about 40 km's to the trip.

That will be my new year's resolution - Do the Ipswich 100km.
But only if it includes some Boonah hills

3 options - 100 miles (160k's), 100 Kilometers and 50 kilometers. 100K will be more than enough for me...

The joy and excitement you get after doing the imperial 100 is wonderful. We weren't quick and came at the tail end of the Rainbow Ride but I thoroughly enjoyed it and makes it more of a challenge next time to beat my previous time.
Besides April leaves plenty of time to exercise.

Just had a look at the ride options.
The 100 km is relatively flat.
The 100 mile has some very significant climbs and a terrifyingly fast descent.(just on the Moogerah side of Mt Alford)

Watch out for Roos on that ride, if you see them crossing road, swerve in the direction of their tails.
Apparently they never go backwards.

I thoroughly recommend the Ipswich 100, it's a great ride through some fantastic countryside, and the organisation and volunteers were brilliant. This year was the first time they've added the Imperial 100 (it was 170 km), and I should caution that it is much harder than the Metric 100. I'm not saying don't do it (quite the opposite - please do it, it's brilliant), but the loop with the extra 70 km is much harder than the main loop of 100 km. There is quite a bit of climbing around Lake Moogerah and then the dirty dozen hills coming out of Boonah. Plus there will be wind (there always is out there). But a really brilliant ride, you just need to get out and train for it though. If people aren't up to the Imperial 100 then obviously the Metric 100 is a great option. The general pace of the ride is higher than the Brisbane-GC, but the sense of accomplishment is much higher too. Another fantastic ride this year was the Endeavour Challenge (I'm hoping they run that again next year, because it was a terrific experience too).

I did the imperial 100 (170 odd km) on my fixed gear this year (2010). I won't lie; it was a very hard day on the bike. As hard as it was, it was even more rewarding.

If you're unsure - just do it. Pain is temporary.

I was a bit worried when I saw last night that nobody had replied - I hope I didn't discourage anyone, because that totally wasn't my intention. Please do this ride! I just wanted people to be aware that you will need a bit more preparation if you're going to enjoy the Imperial 100. But if you can ride 100 km, you can ride much further, and this ride is very achievable. In truth it mainly comes down to getting your eating and drinking right on the day (and the day before too), and a bit of stretching leading up to the day will help keep you comfortable on the bike as well.

I totally agree with Ryan, the sense of reward lasts much longer than the pain. And Ryan, that's an awesome effort to do it on a fixie! Wow.

think i will make this my next goal only been riding for 3 months now, commuting on a mtb. 100km by april seems reasonable....

now to get a road bike....

I rode Brisbane to Gold Coast 2008 on a 10-speed Repco Monaco - and also done a few other 100 km rides on it. Mine wasn't even the rustiest bike on the B2GC ride.

However, your excuse for an upgrade is very good!

m excuse gets even better. My old bike is actually my brother's, Im borrowing it. And it's a 56cm and I really need a 58-60cm. Just need the $$ now.
